Good point....Once again I chose Carmichael...I think his ability is a true game changer and he is a front court player which is rare to find in the MVC...

Carmichael needs to improve his perimeter defense if he wants to play significant minutes at the 4. If Threloff (IlSU's 6'10 recruit) gets his game to college speed, and Wilkins lives up to the hype, IlSU could start 6'10, 6'9, and 6'9 and not lose a step.

Being a BU fan its hard to agree with you but I do. I love Carmichaels game and if Wilkins is all they say ,you guys are going to be good inside for some time. Not as giddy over Therloff but if he comes around quickly all you will need is some good guards and you will be in the running for the next 3 years.

That's what's funny. Wilkins is a 6'9 3 guard with very little intention of banging inside. I'm not saying he won't someday after significant time in the weight room, but now he is so skinny that any attempt to post up just wouldn't work. He's a perimeter, face up player with 3 point range.

If I had to guess for this season, Carmichael will play the 5, Lewis (best rebounding efficiency in the Valley last season) will play the 4, and Wilkins will play the 3.

I love ISU's big guys. Your worst big would be a starter at BU. I also feel you can't win our league without good bigs. Spells trouble for JL .

Quick comment on the ISUblue players mentioned before...I agree that Kelly had fairly pedestrian numbers prior to getting injured last season. However, I tend to take my brother's word as gold when it comes to assessing talent...he felt that Kelly was NBA caliber...the kid has tremendous work ethic and that rubs off on the rest of the guys. Whether or not he's still capable after his injury remains to be seen. I do honestly feel that Kelly was on the verge of getting the offense to the point of where he was going to start putting up big numbers...he was doing quite well in the SIU game before going down w/ the knee injury.

As for Lathan...extremely freakish athlete but no chance for the NBA I'm afraid ...wrong height for his position I'm afraid...definitely capable of playing pros overseas though.

Back to your regularly schedule thread...very impressed w/ fans picking players from other teams...in a thread like this, you have to consider the best younger players I think...guys you'll have for 3 or 4 years. Those guys aren't always going to be on "your" team.

I believe that after last year Jake Kelly will feel the need to make up for his injury and we should see fire in his eyes this season, I hope

I also look for somed unknown kid who comes off the bench and sets the league on fire, who :?: we will have to wait :o

No love indeed - 4 pages of posts and only 1 Colt Ryan. I tried to find any summer updates on at least one player from each MVC team, couple that with '09-'10 stats, I'll take Ryan. He's a cerebral player, can play the 2, 3 or 4, his coach says he's added 10-15 lbs of muscle over the summer resulting in increased quickness and vertical. I build my team around Colt Ryan.

Typically in the history of the MVC---guys who play in the NBA played on Championship teams or NCAA Tournament teams in the Valley. Again, let's look at history.

If Jake Kelly is really an NBA player then the Sycs should either win the MVC or go to the NCAA Tournament. Let's take a quick look of recent NBA/MVC guys (off top of my head so feel free to add)

Kyle Korver, Crieghton, NCAA and Championship
Anthony Tolliver, Creighton, NCAA and Championship
Patrick O' Bryant, Bradley, NCAA Sweet 16
Anthony Parker, Bradley, NCAA and Championship
Hersey Hawkins, Bradley, NCAA and Championship
Xavier McDaniel, Wichita, NCAA and Championship

Im not making this stuff up. Look at facts and look at history. I still have not seen anyone outside of ISU Blue fans on this board who are touting Jake Kelly as an NBA level player. I think we all feel he is a nice player who will help the Sycs--but that's not the same as playing in the NBA.
