CU gets first 2012 commit

Postby LJay » May 1st, 2011, 5:21 pm

Michael Orris from Illinois within weeks of getting an offer from Whiner Weber at Illinois decides for Creighton. He's a 6'2" point guard.

This will be the first kid CU lands that Merfeld is lead recruiter and the first high school kid from Illinois for the Jays in a long time.

Here's something from IllinoisPreps prior to the commitment:

Jays have two rides for 2012 due to not landing the juco kid from Idaho plus Antoine Young's departure after next season.

I hear some say Orris is half as good as Jake Odum thus will only be an All-American by his senior year...not as a sophomore. :buddies:

I saw Orris play once this season. He's long and effective but lacks great athelitic ability. The Valley is probably a good fit for him. I thought the Illini offereing him was a bit of a stretch.

He played also side 2 D-I signees, (DePaul and Green Bay) so expect his points per game to go up next year while his team's success will likely drop off.

Don't expect Weber to give up because of a verbal from a 2012 player.

Been behind on reading the recruiting news this spring but this looks like a really nice get for the Jays. He had some nice high D1 offers plus a few MVC offers so it's great he decided to be a Jay!

Sounds like a weird deal with his HS coach and the reasons why he decommitted.

He must have heard about CUSA. Didn't want to miss out on that.

Call it a hunch, but I strongly believe that people will have a different tune on this subject by the middle of next week. A decidely less derisive tone.
