Now, I realize that this conversation is primarily in regards to basketball because...(everyone in unison) "THE MVC IS A BASKETBALL CONFERENCE" (little, 3yr old kid cuts off a half-second behind everyone else). But bear with me...the talk about some MVFC programs upgrading to FBS has been tossed around quite a bit since I joined this forum. The Casey's and such have assumed that if such a jump would be made, the program as a whole would benefit tremendously.....HOWEVER....a recent develop on PN brought to our attention the current state of Western Kentucky football (yeah remember them? A team that was fairly competitive in the MVFC several years back?). Anyone want to guess how many games they have won in 4 yrs of FBS play (including this season)? I'll wait....50? 25? 15?....100?!?! C'mon Casey get with the program

1...2....3..................FOUR!!!! :o Four wins (all coming from two 2-?? seasons). I think Indiana State's schlaking of them last weekend cemented what has been quietly stewing for some time. THEY SUCK. I'd urge any of you to ask their fans if they regret the move...if they say no, then alert Casey so he can be aware that he is no longer one of the most optimistically delusional homers in college football (that I have had the pleasure of meeting).

Pick your moves carefully. As for UNI, I kinda like this whole perennial contender thing 8-)

Not saying any and all FCS schools who make the jump would flounder like this, that obviously is not and has not been the case with others in the past...just some food for thought for some of you.

Did you expect them to be regularly competing and making bowl games within 4 years? It takes time to build a FBS program even if you are a top notch FCS team. This doesn't surprise me one bit and I would expect similar results within a 4 year period if ISU or mostly any FCS team were to make the jump.

Besides, at least they can say they have had home games against Ball St. (when they were ranked), USF, Indiana, Navy and also played Kentucky at a neutral site this year. They have also played a bunch of tough teams on the road those last 4 years. As you mentioned, FBS takes a large budget. sometimes you have to make ends meet by loading up with a bunch of hard buy games, but at least they are there.

You want to know how many Marquee home games ISU and UNI have played in the last 4 years? I'll wait....50? 25? 15?....100?!?!

3.....2.....1.....0..............ZERO!!!!

You can't run with the big boys if you don't even take the chance. ;)

It combines the best of the Valley, best of the Sun Belt, best of the Summit, and remnants of the current Conference USA. It has a conference footprint from Texas to the Dakotas South to North, and from West Virginia to Kansas East to West. Looks to be a nice conference. And let me just tell you, it isn't an uneducated guess entirely. There are some MSU insiders that would concur (KeyWest Bear, cough, cough). One of several possiblities. Embrace the mystery of conference realignment.

CaseyGarrisonforPrez wrote:This is obvious. I spent sometime playing with what I think Conference USA will look like in a couple years. I think most of the west will go to the Moutain West and UCF, ECU will go to the Big East. It would be a 16 team conference with 12 football schools. Drake football doesn't count for this as they are in the Pioneer League or something. Here they are:
Missouri State
Wichita State
Troy
Drake
Marshall
Southern Miss
Western Kentucky
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
Oral Roberts
Middle Tennessee State University
Northern Iowa
Arkansas Little Rock
Arkansas State

It would be a developmental football league, but would be dynamite in the other sports. We could rotate the basketball tournament from Springfield, Wichita, Fargo, Little Rock, etc. Travel could be rough but it looks like a pretty darn good conference to me.

If that is what the conference is going to look like in the future, I hope to God the Catholic Conference happens. That list is brutal outside of the MVC schools. The Dakotas? Arky St? Middle Tenn St? :barfing emoticon: Good luck splitting the revenues that one NCAA bid among the 16!!!!! conference members. The list of teams does look like a wonderful plan to try to make everyone else as cash strapped as MSU is right now.

Dynamite in other (non-football) sports? Please. Most of those schools couldn't compete in the MVC right now.

If that "looks like a pretty darn good conference" to you, I recommend a quick visit to an eye doctor.

Yes, this would be if the Cathlic League comes to fruition. That would be the first domino to trigger massive realignment of the Valley. The thing that people have to tacke into account is that this would be a long term decision, sure some of these schools aren't great right now but schools like North Texas and the Dakota schools have immense potential down the line. It would be a great women's basketball and volleyball league from day one too.

If the Catholic League happens, and that's a big if, it may not reach the Valley at all. If it does, even bigger if, we would potentially lose just Creighton. I don't want to lose the Jays, they obviously bring a lot of value to the conference, but I don't see how that sparks a complete disentegration of the MVC. This conference has weathered the storm over the years, losing Cincinatti, Louisville, Memphis, Tulsa, and many more. The conference will survive and adapt.

Casey hurt my feelings. :( Casey didn't list my IlSU Redbirds but then I noticed he didn't include Bradley or SIU either. All I can surmise is he doesn't like anything from Illinois but then I noticed a couple Dakota schools were on his list. That makes sense, there is a lot more going on in the Dakotas than in Illinois.

Well yes there is a reason for the omission. I have Illinois State and SIUC in the MAC and Bradley in the Horizon. I have some insight on this too. Certainly things are fluid. I do have a buddy that is an Associate AD at an Ohio Valley school. This is the educated part of my assessment. I should say that a lot of this is his guesswork, not totally knowledge.
