Thomas effectively eliminated Dayton and sometimes we'll take that. I know I've seen the same type of thing on our end. Heck, Early may have fallen into that group when SDSU got a verbal from a comparable guy.

ict - My bad. I'm posting between customers. Maybe I need to slow down a bit. Had I noticed who posted it, I'm sure it would have went differently.

Unless I'm dreaming, Valley coaches/teams seem to have upgraded their sights on recruiting. Obviously, ALL our recruits are All MVC when they commit. We usually all find out differently once they take the court. There are no secrets anymore. I would venture CU/WSU etc offer what, 40-50 kids per class? I can see the Valley turning the corner real quick regarding the NCAA's. Thoughts on recruits in the Valley?
I agree. I like that we're going after bigger and better players. There are going to be misses and you're going to lose out to other schools. Obviously I don't follow others recruiting near as close as I do WSU, but things are definitely looking up at both our schools. There may be others as well. The Valley as a whole needs to continue, or start to, aim high and take some risks. I do feel that both WSU and CU should probably be dancing and can make some noise this year. We have to take care of our non con games though. It appears that some of the other schools are starting to increase their talent level as well and that will help as a whole. We still may be a couple of years away from possibly getting more than 2 teams in, but I think it's coming. Would like to see what happens at Bradley as they definitely have the potential to be one of those teams. Jank has landed a couple but has to schedule better. Evansville and Indiana State may be moving in the right direction. Time will tell. MSU likes their kids, I'll have to look more into their recruiting and a new coach can change quite a bit. Overall, this past year, and the upcoming one appear to be pretty good as far as recruiting goes for the Valley.

I'm tired today, I hope that wasn't too rambling....

It did appear that Yates used CU as a 'fallback manuver', but still a decent get. IMO Jays would have done good to take a chance on AZ prospect Milligan, a St Benedict's NJ guard, or a Cali PG (Steve Jones), but what the heck do I know. Yates states he likes the school and tweeted himself (?? what's up with that??) so maybe its a good thing.

Doesn't appear that any Top 150 kids are coming to the MVC this year (or is there one?).

Not on Rivals that I'm aware of. But I believe WSU has one that is in Scouts 150. Or at least that's what I think I was told. I don't have a Scout subscription so I don't spend much, if any, time there. I THINK Fred VanVleet is on their list. I know Bossi said he came in about 151 on Rivals.

Dayton still has 3 rides open even with their 2 commits to date. My sources indicate they still wanted Yates very much but I think Yates sees the opportunity at CU with AY graduating after this year and took more of a sure thing opportunity to be a contributor early in the career versus a much less certain situation at Dayton with multiple players at the same position in the same class.

That pretty much is the norm anymore with kids...can I play right away. Actually I don't like that mentality but in this case it benefited my Jays so I'll take it!

'Grats, CU.

WSU was recruiting Yates, but after VanVleet committed, there were other needs, so Yates became less of a priority.

VanVleet committed early to WSU, so - surprise! surprise! Scout and Rivals didn't check him out this summer at all. They raised his rating based on reports they heard, but since they hadn't had one of their guys watch him, they didn't think they could justify putting him in their top-100 category.

VanVleet outplayed some very highly rated PG's (top-50 and top-25 4* and 5* types) and did it consistently all summer. Don't look for any Scout or Rivals respect for Valley recruits - especially if they commit before summer ball after their Jr years.

If CU still has a scholarship, Yates HS teammate, Deontae (sp??) Hawkins was said to be considering a package deal for himself and Yates. Hawkins appears to be the more heavily (and Highly) recruited player of the two. Signing Yates opens up a pretty nice door for potentially getting another very effectice player.

CU is out of rides except for the "Doug Scholarship".

GMac has publicly stated (I'm pretty sure of that being a public statement but not absolutely sure) that if an extraordinary opportunity presented itself he would pay Doug's way for the last two years.

That really shouldn't be a surprise. He can more than afford it and if it benefitted the BJs it would make plenty of sense.

I do not know if that is legal. There are probably ways to make it work, especially since Doug is his kid, but I think the NCAA scrutinizes this kind of stuff. I know they look very closely at walkons that receive academic scholarships. They look hard at that stuff. It's one of those things that might work easily at Kentucky, Duke, Kansas or North Carolina, but if a Creighton or Utah State tried it, it would prompt an NCAA investigation.
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

Yeah, I am not so sure Creighton could get away with that.
