I do not know if that is legal. There are probably ways to make it work, especially since Doug is his kid, but I think the NCAA scrutinizes this kind of stuff. I know they look very closely at walkons that receive academic scholarships. They look hard at that stuff. It's one of those things that might work easily at Kentucky, Duke, Kansas or North Carolina, but if a Creighton or Utah State tried it, it would prompt an NCAA investigation.
You not know if it is legal doesn't matter one iota. It is totally "legal" for him to pay the way for his own son.
