MVC Tourney to Kansas City, MO?

No reason whatsoever to not rotate it unless the Sprint center simply won't work on price. Can't imagine that to be the case, especially if KC loses the Big12 tourney. Also and this will piss off many but why shouldn't the conference reward the two fan bases that show up the most at conf tourney by putting it closer once every other year?

BTW that has been talked about a lot on local radio stations, by KSU and KU guys who do weekly spots on shows. They feel if Missouri leaves then why would the Big 12 want to dump money into a state in which it has no school.

KC/Sprint Center did not put together a competitive bid last time. I am hopeful that a departure of the Big 12 tourney might change their mind as they will need to replace the $14 million somehow.

As to the last sentence in your paragraph, I think that is why so many CU/WSU fans aren't enthralled with the MVC right now. If the conference continues to slight the two biggest fanbases in favor of schools with very small fanbases, it will only be a matter of time before the conference no longer has those two large fanbases to take for granted.

I was thinking about this a little more and feel the impact could be greater than you are considering. Yes, the distance from the UNI campus to both STL & KC are relatively equal. However, how many of the UNI alums actually live around the campus. A large number of them actually reside in Omaha and throughout Northwest Iowa, both of which are significantly closer to KC than STL.

Having the (highly successful) conference tournament in the same city as the MVC headquarters = "slighting the two biggest fanbases in favor of others"?

Wow, get out your tinfoil hats people.

I am not completely opposed to going to KC for the tourney. I think it would be OK to rotate it, they are similar cities, and travel really isn't that much different.

But its important to realize that Arch Madness is one of the more successful conference tournaments in the entire country. There really is not a pressing need to move away from STL.

KC is closer for WSU, CU, Drake, and MSU. UNI is only 40 miles further to KC than STL. So the notion that it's a gamble just doesn't make sense to me.

From a purely selfish standpoint, I'd love to see the tourney in KC....it would save me about 2.5 hours each direction....makes it easier to get to those Thursday night games

I don't think Drake would bring a huge crowd to KC, but they'd bring more than they bring to St Louis; both because it's closer and because Drake has a lot of students from KC and a decent amount of alumni in the area.

From a selfish standpoint, I would like to see it moved to Chicago. :duel:

Didn't they just announce last year that they renegotiated to continue to have the championship in St. Louis for x amount of years though?

A rotation seems fair to me. Does anybody outside the Valley really know what Arch Madness is or if that name itself even exists? It's nice to have that tagline, but it's by no means a deal breaker.

Most of the big boy tourneys rotate around fairly often. If there is a chance to make more money and have things run just as smoothly as they are in St. Louis, and to reward the fans who help generate a large portion of the tournament revenue, I think it should happen.

The two biggest fanbases are CU and WSU. CU and WSU have the longest travel distance to get to the league tournament. The willingness of the WSU and CU fanbases to travel is the only reason the tournament is successful.

I don't think it's any stretch to say that forcing the largest fanbases to travel the furthest - and the fanbases that make the tournament successful - is "slighting the biggest fanbases in favor of others".

Put the tourney is KC and the extra fans from Omaha and Wichita would probably make up for the entire fanbases of INSU, Evansville, IlSU and all the other eastern schools in the league. Compared to CU and WSU, UNI has virtually no following for their basketball, even when they have a good run for a couple of years.

It's money that's fueling conference realignment. Basketball revenue supports the MVC. The "eastern faction" of the MVC isn't doing any favors for CU, MSU, and WSU. From what I've seen on this forum and on the Valley Talk forum, it's CU, WSU, and MSU fans who seem to have the most interest in leaving the Valley.

It's time for the Valley to start throwing some bones toward the west end of the conference. Tinfoil hats aren't going to prevent the west end of the Valley from looking like poachable schools and aren't going to keep the west end of the Valley from conside5ring any possible options they might have.
