Could you imagine if both Creighton and WSU lost in the Quarters? The place would be a ghost town.

So it'd be a lot like St Louis then? Look at attendance figures for Arch Madness since the CU-SIU final a few years back and tell me change wouldn't help.

+1

Exactly - it would be exactly the same thing as we have now.... The difference being that CU & WSU fans buy tickets for the whole tourney, so the conference would still make money. It isn't like those fanbases are like SIU fans that only buy tickets for their own games.

There are only four fanbases that travel with any type of real numbers -- CU, WSU, MSU and Bradley (SIU fans that largely live in and around STL will go to games when their team is good as well). Of those, CU & WSU have far and away the most fans in St Louis. The rest of the schools have a hard enough time even getting 5K to their home games.... That is why the conference will suffer financially in WSU or CU leave -- You can replace the school, but you can't replace the size of the fanbases....

That is last year's seating chart. Imagine the added WSU and CU sales if it were in Kansas City. Then consider how littel difference it would make to the schools that didn't sell any tickets even being close to STL.

Better idea. Let's rotate the tournament between the geographic midpoints of the eastern and western halves of our conference.

East: Effingham, IL. They have this high school gym ...
West: St. Joseph, MO. The Griffons of Missouri Western would play host ...

Or, maybe not such a good idea :Violin:

Flip side, could you imagine a CU/WSU final in KC? I know WSU in the final is a rare bird though.

Really any combo that has at least one of the western teams in it would do just fine. By western I mean any of the 5 teams of UNI, MSU, DU, CU, WSU.

Everyone from the other schools that wanted to leave town early would have no problem selling their tickets. Scalpers would make a killing. You would be looking at a sellout crowd for sure. The last sellout crowd I'm aware of (and perhaps the only sellout crowd) was the 2007 semi finals.

If the goal is to sell it out, we might as well go the route of schools hosting the tournament on their own courts like other mid-major and low-major conferences. If the goal is to keep it a neutral atmosphere where anyone can win 3 or 4 games in 3 or 4 days, it should stay in St. Louis.

Yes, because selling out a 7,000 seat arena is obviously the same as selling out a 19,000 seat arena. And let's be honest, St. Louis isn't very neutral when CU and WSU are involved anyways.

Explain to me how STL is neutral and KC isn't?
