IBA will host NCAA Women's basketball games in March so there goes that "advantage".

Simply put, the people in Iowa (or close to it) are gonna favor Wells Fargo Arena; the ones in Kansas will favor IBA. Unfortunately for both, the NCAA headquarters resides in neither.

The NCAA cares about onbe thing, the NCAA. They don't care about Wichita, Des Moines, Omaha or even Indianapolis. They never cared about Kansas City. The only advantage of hosting the womens regionals is if the regional is successful. If not, it's a huge liability. I don't know how the womens regionals went in Des Moines, hopefully well. They better go off without a hitch in Wichita and be well attended. Otherwise...

The Women's NCAA tournament in Des Moines went well. They were advantaged by having several thousand Iowa State fans buy up the tickets.

Des Moines has rooms right by Wells Fargo, I think the closest in Wichita are four to six blocks away.

Is it true that the closest hotels in Wichita are 4 to 6 blocks away? (I've never been there and can't tell if this is an MVJ joke or the reality)

If true, it is a bit of an issue for NCAA tourney hosting according to what the reps said when they were in Omaha...

Oh my God!!!

You can't make this stuff up!!!

tornado is pulling up speeding tickets!!!!!

I'm sorry to be bringing this board down into the mud, but pointing out that a kid got a ticket for 15-20 over the limit?    Are you serious, tornado? I mean were not talking 15-20 beers over the limit, were talking a speeding ticket!!!

The Bradley fan that has never gotten a speeding ticket and never driven 15-20 MPH over the speed limit can cast the first stone. I guess just like SOuthern Illinois, tornado drives a Yugo.

Speeding tickets aren't the only example. One time, he was going off on SIU players because when perusing the Illinois court systems on-line system, he found out that they were involved in an unlawful detainer action.

Now, while that may sound pretty nefarious to a member of the medical profession, it actually is just the formal name of an eviction action. I pointed this out on the Bradley board and he went ballistic! He said that they must have done something because the word "unlawful" appeared in the title. I kindly pointed out that is what the action is called; it doesn't mean that they committed a crime. He then went on to state they must have done something unlawful in order to get evicted. When I suggested that people can get evicted for many things aren't the least bit illegal, he deleted all the posts in the thread except for his initial post reporting the horrible misdeed, and locked the thread!

It was not a joke. I think the closest is morel like six blocks, maybe a bit further. It may have changed, somebody may have built near the arena.

4-6 blocks is not far, and we have shuttles on a trolley(s) that run during IBA events.

You are misunderstanding. The NCAA doesn't care how the fans get to the arena. The NCAA doesn't care how far away rooms are within the city. The NCAA doesn't care if there is a trolley or a shuttle system. They don't care. They care that the arena seats more than 12,000 and that there are enough hotel rooms within the city to accomodate the fans.

But with regards top the NCAA bigwigs, they care. They do care about that their people are not being shuttled, walking or driving four to six blocks. The NCAA wants enough rooms at or very near the event to house every NCAA officials. The teams can be in hotels 30 miles away for all the NCAA cares, but when you tell the NCAA that you will shuttle official NCAA representatives and the game officials to and from the arena, you are at a disadvantage. You better have a serious game plan for getting every NCAA representative where they want, when they want and guarantee them that you won't have delays or be late. They are serious A-holes that way.

Oh, and by the way, you will pay for their rooms, food and drink, the NCAA pays for nothing. You will pay for their private bars in their rooms, but don't try to sell a beer at the event.

Boise, Idaho has hosted and continues to host NCAA Men's basketball tournament games. Their closest hotel was .4 miles away. That translates to 4-6 blocks away.

Either Boise is really special or this isn't a perfect science afterall.

Nobody said the hotel issue was a deal breaker, just a factor. In a city where the NCAA has no experience with major events, it is more of a factor. Furthermore, I do believe the long term plans for IBA include a hotel within a block. It will all take care of itself. Now if you could just get your local Wichita Cavateers to quit posting blogs calling your arena Intrust Osama Bin Laden Arena.

Cities like Boise and Dayton have a long relationship with NCAA officials. That's why they keep getting games. It's like an exclusive club to break into, once you're in, you're golden. But to break in you really need to show them something.

Des Moines and Wichita are the semi-nerdy guys that meet all of the technical requirements to join the club, the club just isn't sure if they want to be hanging out with them all of the time yet.

Very well put. Also, with regards to the hotel issue, dealing with Boise and Dayton are different as well because you are dealing with NCAA institutions, not the city or county govt.
