Conference Realignment - where will we be in 5 yrs?

West Virginia officially to Big 12. The Big East is in trouble - not sure why Boise, Navy or Air Force (or anyone else) would want to join the Big East for football.

I think this would likely get Louisville into the big 12 now if/when Mizzou moves to the SEC.

You are right. I don't see why any team would want to join the big east now. I would actually think it would be to the benefit of a conference like the CUSA to try and pick off the leftovers of the big east and various other teams to secure an AQ bid.

Big 12 has announced they will stay at 10 teams.

For now. You know they have to have Louisville in their sites. They'll go back to 12 in the near future and those additions will be from the East to help bridge the gap.

CUSA should definitely start targeting some of the Big East schools and the BE looks very shakey right now. Perhaps they try to get Louisville and Cinci back?

Why would they leave the Big East for C-USA? If the BCS were to yank the Big East's automatic qualifier, maybe... But I don't think that's possible until the next round of negotiations.

I think it's far more likely that Houston, SMU, Central Florida, and maybe Memphis and East Carolina end up in the Big East.

No surprise, but Mizzou to SEC per the league website which accidentally posted it even though it wasn't supposed to be announced until Monday.

But the news release on the SEC website may have let the cat out of the bag. It said: "Given the ever-changing conference paradigm over the past year, the Southeastern Conference has continued to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining its stature as one of the nation's premier conferences by welcoming the University of Missouri as the league's 14th member, Commissioner Mike Slive announced Monday.

"Missouri joins Texas A&M University as the league's two new institutions who will begin full membership on July 1, 2012. It is the first expansion of the SEC membership since Arkansas and South Carolina joined the conference in 1992."

The SEC website on Thursday night also included links to pages listing Missouri's SEC connections and its rich homecoming tradition.

Some of those schools you mentioned may jump at the BE, however, the BE isn't without major question marks right now and that may keep some from moving. Things are getting interesting and CUSA could really push their conference up the ladder if they play their cards right.

Nobody is saying the Big East looks stable, but until the gravy train runs out, why go bankrupt yourself in C-USA?

What a joke, there is no way the Big East is gonna keep it's AQ status after 2013 with that sad lineup of football teams. Boise St. should think twice about joining the Big East (unless there is a clause in the contract that says they can leave after 2013). Big East football needs to die....

So Navy changed their minds? Air Force doesn't surprise me. The question now is where will they put their other sports? I'll guess WCC. Same with Boise. They can't leave their other sports where they are.

But you're right. Adding these teams doesn't make up for what they lost. Boise is really good, but Houston, SMU, Navy and Air Force don't offer a lot. AFA is solid, but not great. UCF definitely has potential but doesn't make up for the losses.

It also doesn't do much for them in basketball. UCF and Houston are alright and have potential...

I think conferences could easily start picking off some more teams if they want.
