We could call that the Barry Hinson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Not entirely true. Usually, that would be the case, but strange things can happen. Should Wichita State win the league (or any of the other top four picks) and Evansville surges to finish second or third with winning league record, my vote would go with Marty.

I get that, but generally speaking history has sided with the coach of the Valley Champ.

I picked Marshall but if SIU doesn't play on Thursday, CLO might have turned in his best coaching job. :D

UNI had a great season last year and Jake deserved the award, but I actually thought McKenna might have done the best coaching job in the conference. After losing key guys to injuries on a team with modest expectations to begin with and keeping them out of Thursday night. In that regard, if Lowery or Simmons can improve from last year they should be considered too.

That is why the "Coach of the Year" award means nothing. It is not given to the coach who did the best "coaching" job. It is just like the "player of the year" award - it doesn't go to the player who had the best year, but it goes to the best player on the team that had the best year.

Who was the last first year(with a Valley team) head coach to win the MVC coach of the year award? I am genuinely wondering...because I don't see Lansing winning it and Idk if I would count Mcdermott in that same area though..

I would guess Keno Davis is the answer to your question.
