In my opinion, it is way, way too early to even have this discussion, we're over a month away from the start of the conference slate. That Bazooka guy from Missouri State is just as likely as anyone else. Let's watch a few conference games first.

As a UNI fan I shouldn't even write this, but McDermott is way better than Weems. After the game Goodman dropped McDermott in his national player of the year top ten from 3rd to 4th. National player of the year discussion doesn't happen to MVC players. He still had a double double last night in a game where I've never seen him miss so many shots. Oh and Gottlieb has Doug as a 1st rounder NBA pick this year if he comes out.

Kyle had an amazing game last night but this is Doug's league for the next 3 years.

End of apologist posting.

I think McDermott is better because he brings it every game, for every minute.

Last night though, you saw what Weems can bring when he wants it. He thoroughly dominated McDermott down the stretch, while McD did very little and deferred to Ethan Wragge.

I fully expect McD to respond against the Shox with a better game.

I think McDermott may be better but I think it's pretty close. Offensively night in and night out it's McDermott. But Weems at this point is much better defensively. He's a true 2 way player. And add in his (Weems) propensity to excel in big game situations and it's pretty darned close (IMHO).

Weems didn't dominate McDermott int he sense that they were going one on one. McDermott did not guard Weems most of the time down the stretch. Either Gibbs or Josh Jones was on Weems for most of the time. Weems hit a lot of shots that he had not been hitting so far this season. Oviously, Weems had the better game last night, and Doug was subpar (missing 10 of 18 shots) I have no doubt Doug will continue to score about 20 a night and lead the team in rebounding. The question is will Weems show it over the rest of the season, or will he just save those games for Creignton? Time will tell.

I will be surprised if Weems doesn't make an NBA Starting Day roster somewhere next year. He has the physicality and skill set to have a nice little career. I wouldn't mind him coming off the bench for the Nuggets.

I'll have to go with McD as well. Expect him to challenge the Big O's arena record Saturday night in Wichita.

Make no mistake, Dougie Fresh hasn't guarded much of anything since arriving in Omaha. A fantastic offensive player without question, but defense is not his long suit and he appears to not enjoy getting after it on D as well. He would be tremendous if he were to play old time (more recent in Iowa) girls 3-3 basketball.

And just to be clear, Doug is hands down the DESERVING POY this year, barring injury.

There isn't any player alive that doesn't occasionally come up short. :Bam: :Bam:

But you could fill a pretty long highlight reel with all the big shots he's hit and the big games he's had over his 4 years.
