Counting their two exhibitions, UNI has played nine home games totaling 33,753. They are averaging 3,750 per game. Taking away the exhibitions, UNI has put 26,973 through the turnstyles for an average of 3,853. Their largest crowd was Iowa, at 6,834 it wasn't even a sellout in a 7,000 seat arena.

Maybe my math is wrong maybe your math is wrong, but its pretty close either way. There is no reason UNI doesn't have over 5,000 at every game.

The game vs Iowa was actually technically sold out. You could not buy tickets, but of course there were plenty of season ticket holders that did not show up or give their tickets to someone who would have used them.

We aren't Wichita and we aren't Creighton now get over it. We won't have the attendance others schools will have. Some of it is Cedar Falls only has 32k people in the town, and part of it is being the 3rd fiddle in the state.

Creighton has both a large metropolitan area, and they are one of 2 DI teams in Nebraska (maybe 3 now if UNO moved up). They are also by far the top basketball school in their state. Wichita might be third fiddle, but Wichita has close to 400k people in it.

It is tough, and I hate it! I wish there would be better fan support. There is no excuse, but lecturing people who come on a message board to chat about their teams athletics aren't the ones you need to be telling this to. We know the support sucks, we know we have a good team, and we know it should be better.

Beer.

Creighton sells it, UNI should too (and no, there is no NCAA rule or state law preventing it).

During the 20 seasons since UNI joined the MVC in 1991-1992, UNI has ranked last or next to last in average attendance 15 out of 20 years.
That is correct. It is important to note that most of those teams were pretty bad, and UNI had little basketball tradition to build off of during those years.

Its also interesting to note that UNI's poor attendance during many of those early years was right along-side with what Creighton's attendance was. Creighton didn't finish higher than 7th in attendance in any season until 2001, and they were often in the bottom two in the 1990's. Pre Qwest-Center, CU's numbers are almost identical to what UNI has produced.
You have tradition now, so what is the excuse? During WSU's lean years in the 90's they still averaged over 7,000 fans a game. UNI has been good for over 5 years and have won conference titles along with a sweet 16 run, you should be filling the arena for in state rivals and top level conference teams.
Creighton's highest attendance in the entire decade of the 90's was 5K. And they had tradition from years past that UNI did not, and they have the large city of Omaha that UNI does not.

Its different at UNI. We are still in the process of building a larger loyal following.
What is exactly different other than you have a smaller city? UNI's enrollment is around 13k students with 92% being from Iowa. Why are they not going to the game? You are not even averaging 1/2 of your student population at the game. I don't know for a fact, but I believe Cedar Falls is a college town, what else could there be to do besides going to a college basketball game when you are fighting for a conference title and NCAA birth?

Except I never even considered UNI's attendance figures until they were mentioned by a UNI poster. Since it was mentioned, I was curious. Now that those numbers are brought to light, we should never speak of them again???

Now if you really want to know what fan base has puzzling attendance issues, look at Missouri State. They won their league last year, are in an MSA over 400,000, have a brand new 11,000 seat arena, are currently tied for first place and they don't sell out.

Per NCAA data from last year, MSU averaged 7,595 for a home game. Pretty sad when you are leading the conference and fighting for a NCAA bid. There MSA isn't much less than Wichita, and WSU averaged 10,428 per home game.

Hard to do when you don't have locker rooms inside your arena! :Bam:

I really, really like being able to buy beer at basketball games. It's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Chuck Norris and Kung Fu Panda AWESOME!!!!!!

That said, I have never made a decision to attend or not attend a sporting event based on the availability of purchasing an overpriced beer. And while Wichita State fans like to throw the "they only go to the games to buy beer" card around, even they will admit that when the Shockers play at IBA, having beer handy is nice, but it has little or nothing to do with their decision to attend a game. The beer is great, but I only have a beer occasionally, I had zero last night.

And since they raised the price at the yellow beer hut and quit selling Schlitz, I will probably have fewer and fewer beers at The Qwest ..... errr Century Link Center.

I would love to have a beer at every WSU game, but doesn't detour me from going to the game. Going to IBA this year and having a beer was nice, but the price of the tickets for the opponent we had, much to be desired.

LMS wrote:If I wasn't a Jays fan, UNI would be my team. They controlled tempo and style last night and probably should have won. UNI reminds me of my church league team, bunch of unathletic looking white guys who can stick a jumper. Not sure any of them would start for Creighton which speaks to BJ's coaching.

False.

AJ is an All Valley player, as is Jake.

Kwadzo was arguably (and it has been argued ad nausium at times) the best or one of the best PG's his final three seasons in the valley.

Adam Koch won POY.

Deon will be an All Valley player during his time at UNI

Tuttle may be FOY.

Out of our recruiting class from this year Bohannon and Tuttle were both highly sought after by CU. Deon was one of the top ranked players in Texas with offers from Colorado,Baylor, Marquette, Arizona and Arizona State

There is a good amount of talent on UNI's roster, but it doesn't have the experience in some areas to really show just yet.

A bunch of white guys...up until 3 games ago 2 of our starters were black, as is 1/3 of our roster. That's just an ignorant statement.

Just because UNI doesn't try to fast break on every possession doesn't make them nonathletic and terrible to watch. UNI is 7th in the league in scoring but positions 4-7 are within seven-tenths of a point of each other. Had UNI scored 64 last night they may have been 4th or 5th as of the stats. UNI's defense is the "best" in the league allowing the fewest PPG, and is top half in point differential.

This years team is different than the teams of the last three or four years. While not the fast break offense people "want" to see it is much more uptempo.
