The bolded part is where, I think, you lose people. I don't really see how UNI's challenges are different than every other school.

Further, I think UNI creates a lot of the problems themselves. The decision to make people pay to listen to audio broadcasts only serves to limit a school's exposure, not enhance it.

There are problems at UNI that the other Valley schools don't face when it comes to getting a fan base built.

I do agree with paying for the radio feed though. I've sent many emails to the athletic department over this, and have never gotten one back. Not only that UNI forces radio stations that carry the games to black their online feed out during the games....not many other schools do that.

I agree, UNI hasn't helped itself marketing to the general public, and I've complained anywhere to anyone that would listen about it....including straight to the AD's face. However, nothing has changed.

This has been mentioned probably 100 times, but the online radio decision was not UNI's decision. We have a media contract through Learfield and this is all on them.

That is nothing but semantics. Obviously, UNI decided to do business with Learfield and made a conscious decision to give Learfield the right to control online broadcasts. You can't give up those rights and later say it was all Learfield's fault (not ours!) that you can't hear games on the internet. The truth is, it was UNI's fault for either: (1) Giving Learfield such rights in the first place; or (2) not knowing wtf they were signing at the time they signed it. Either way, it is entirely on UNI, not Learfield.

What are the challenges that UNI is facing that other schools are not?

They are at an unfair disadvantage to the larger state university 100 miles away.
They are in an urban area of roughly only 100,000 people.
Learfield Communications stole their radio rights so the masses can't get free audio on the web.
Learfield won't allow streaming on ESPN3.
Waterloo is a slum. Nothing but pimps and hoes. No boats, just hoes.
Fans are more interested in attending the rasslin' tailgates than the basketball games.
Terry Brandstadt.
Did I mention that Learfield employees are a bunch of bastards?
State full of redneck hunters that shouldn't vote. They only care about their hunting dogs.
Gay marriage.

Things in UNI's favor:
Arena is the nicest in the Valley.
UNI is a lock to win Arch Madness.
Clutching and grabbing.
Ron Paul. They love their Ron Paul.
Caucus not primary.
Gay marriage.

Or (3):
UNI would rather have the cash and network breadth that Learfield provides than exposure to a couple hundred people who may as well be in Ghana. The Learfield deal probably comes out to a half million dollars or more every year.

FWIW here was UNI's student section that now that kids were back on campus and not craming for finals and what not.

The only space that was open was the area right behind the pep band, which are always open because you can't see s***.

What you can't see is the final section of the student section (far left side) also full. I'd bet student turn out was over 90-95% of allotted seats.

I probably wouldn't have posted that picture. It just makes your arena look small. Zoom in next time or crop the picture. As presented, it looks like an oversized high school gym.

Officials: Paul Janssen, Steve Olson, Kipp Kissinger
Technical fouls: Missouri State-None. Northern Iowa-None.
Attendance: 5038

Well, it is starting to make sense now. That is a veritable who's who of sucky refs. Probably three of the top six.
