It isn't a good game for CU. We are ranked and had earned a ranked team. Winning does nothing for us and a loss would really hurt.

Murray is ranked and had earned a ranked team.

Problem is there is only one ranked road team and two ranked home teams someone was gonna get screwed.

and I repeat only ONE team (Wichita State) that CU plays in the MVC has a higher RPI then LBSU. So how is that a "bad" game? Unless you wanna say ALL you MVC games with the exception of the 2 vs WSU are "bad" games.

Who are you, Doug Elgin?

Secondly, you are assuming LBSU's RPI won't drop. Further, a game against a team with a decent RPI doesn't do us much good. What would help would be a win against a high profile (a/k/a ranked) team.

I don't care how the bracketbuster may be good for other conferences. I care about our conference.

It gives ya a top 50 win. 4-0 vs. the top 50, looks better than 3-0, right?

How does losing a game to a top 50 team really hurt you too?

I don't see Long Beach being any different than Wichita State. So losing to them in Omaha IMO, will have the same effect as losing to Wichita in Omaha. (obviously losing to the Shockers has conference championship implications).

And then next year we have to go to Long Beach and play a bad team when we will most likely be ranked in the preseason. How does that help?

Look, if I'm Illinois St and can't schedule noncon games without help, I'd support this event too.

LBSU RPI will be top 50 as long as they go 15-1 in the BW (very possible they are already 9-0 and are clearly the best team).

Top 50 win= good.

If you are that concerned about ranked teams schedule some more during the OOC (ie something you CAN control instead of something- the bb- that you can not control). LBSU scheduled 5 of them.

Not next year the following year (2013-14). LBSU will be down next year but 2013/14 they will be back in the top 50.

I feel for WSU, but not for Creighton.... With all things being independent you did not deserve SMC over Murray State. Murray St. may be over rated, but they are ranked higher than Creighton right now.

Isn't Long Beach State coached by the man who built the Gonzaga program before trying his hand at a major conference? I would think that they may be a program that is on the rise. Seems like they certainly took on the mantra of anyone, anywhere this year and picked up a couple of nice wins on the way. They are a likely tourney team unless they stumble in their tourney, and have an outside chance with the expanded field.

It's not St. Mary's, but it's not like Creighton put themselves up against a challenging schedule despite what looked to be a year in which they could be tough (yes, I know they did manage to schedule 3 Big Ten teams that are fighting to avoid being a double-digit seed for the Big Ten Tourney).

Wichita State got about as good as what was left, though I could see the appeal of ORU. Who did you want besides? South Dakota State? Virginia Commonwealth, again? There just weren't that many good road teams and once they paired up SMC/Murray, the chips fell away.

UNI got the TV game that should have gone to Evansville or Illinois State probably, had either managed a better RPI in the non-conference. Think about how pissed they must be at George Mason to be in first place in the CAA and not get a TV match-up at all.

I find that hard to believe. Cal St Long Beach is not exactly a tourney regular and has no name recognition. On top of that, their (your?) conference blows. Long Beach seems like the typical one year bracket buster wonder -- good one year and god awful when the return game is to be played - see Bucknell, Drexel, Fresno St, etc.

If they have a decent tourney run this year, Monson probably bails.

As an Illinois State fan, should I be excited for a home and return with Oakland?

Oakland was good last year weren't they? Maybe they will be good in a couple years. It's probably better than any other game Jank can schedule.

You could have lined the home and away teams up by RPI and gone straight across and gotten better match ups that made more sense than what we have.
