The thing I remember most about Charlie Spoonhour is his absolute humility. Everything was about the team and the university. Nothing was about him. When the Bears won it was all about his players. When they lost he tried to shoulder the blame. I don't remember him ever saying an unkind word about anyone.
And he could really coach to boot. He squeezed the most out of the talent we had. I never met him. But my father was the president of the MSU alumni association for a few years back then and met him several times. He (my father) said he was as kind and humble in person as he appeared in public.
