Count me as one who thinks UNI has a legit shot to win. Last night was CU's best game of the year (or at least one of the best). No team plays at their best level each and every night. If CU plays like they did against Bradley, UNI could certainly beat them.

I also think UNI could win, but I don't hold out much hope for them. UNI's advantages in that game come down to two things, home court and emotion. Unfortunately for them, Creighton has won on the road, against quality competition, in hostile environments and against better teams than UNI that were also emotionally charged. For UNI to win, they will need to be able to execute for 40 minutes, at the same time, also relying on Creighton not bringing their game.
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

I don't see anything too damning in those old posts... Some were trying to make the case for MSU, most UNI posters were fairly realistic with that hint of optimism any team not named SIU should have had coming into the season.

If everyone would have just agreed that CU and WSU were head and tails above everyone else in August, this would have been a pretty boring place.

Creighton is the game UNI fans circled on their calendar when the schedule was first released. They sold out the game several weeks in advance and it seems to be the only game that people actually turn out in numbers to root for the hoem team (the Iowa game doesn't count because a large section of the crowd was actually rooting for Iowa, not UNI). They've been foaming at the mouths to get the McDermotts on their floor. Their remarkable thin skin has them all lathered up about Creighton fans mocking their "white people shuffle" dance at last year's MVC tourney. The blizzard forecast will keep many Creighton fans from traveling.

Make no mistake about it- Creighton can lose this game. We also don't match up well with their tackle football approach to the game of basketball and their propensity to flop around like beached whales.

The good thing is that Creighton has a lot of confidence and has already managed wins in extremely hostile environs at San Diego St., Wichita and MSU. Hopefully we keep playing well and get another W, but I am pretty worried about this one.

Sorry Starcityjay....that makes no sense. CU doesn't have to play to that level that they played last night to beat UNI. (and I'm not even sure that was there best game of the year) Heck if they score 102 again they might beat UNI by 40! Your saying if they play like they did against Bradley that UNI has a shot, that I agree with!

But this years history shows they don't play that way often so there goes UNI's "legit" shot.

"Legit shot" to me would mean a better than 50 percent chance of winning the game, and I don't think anyone thinks that. But hey...maybe I'm wrong. :buddies:

The point Aargh was making in this thread was the irony in him taking flack in August for predicting the Valley race to come down to a challenge for third place, but those same people that gave him flack back then are all too happy now to jump on the "We will finish in third!" bandwagon. Looking back, it is ironic and funny.

Valley Champ wants to come back and say that nobody from UNI predicted that they would finish first or second, which is correct, but he took what Aargh was trying to convey in his post completely out of context. The fact remains, prior to the start of the season, Creighton and Wichita State were obvious choices for first and second, but fandom and Kool-Aid kept many people from seeing this. While Champ and nobody else ever stated that their team would finish first or second, he and others certainly threw out reasons why Wichita State and Creighton could or would falter. He, and everyone else that contributed were wrong.

It's like all the people that said the world was flat. They had little to say when Columbus proved it to be round. Oh, I bet they came back with the "Where did I ever say it was flat?" comments. They simply continued to deride Columbus.

Okay, I know that Pythagoras discovered that the world was round long before Columbus. And I know that the Bible teaches us that the world is round and I know that many ancient societies also believed the world to be a globe, but we live in America, so it's Christopher Columbus dammitt!!! USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

And he didn't even prove it was round...he hit land and sailed back.

But hey, who wants to let details spoil the fun!

Who do you have Creighton and WSU losing to?
