I'm certain that when you are involved, the other party has no desire to sit down and shoot the bull over a few beers.

For most adults though, there really is no problem with doing so. Over the years in St Louis, I 've had drinks with Saluki fans, ISU fans (both ISUs), Bradley fans, Drake fans and yes, a couple of WSU fans. I don't recall a single problem ever. There may be some good natured ribbing going back and forth, but everyone just laughed it off and had a good time. It is one of the things that makes our conference tourney such a good experience.

If you ever go to the MVC tourney and stay at a hotel that isn't your own team's, you will run into fans of other schools wearing their colors. If you are friendly, I've found that most of them like to chat.

I've stayed at hotels that didn't have just all Shocker fans. I've encountered many opposing fans over the years that were great. I honestly have never encountered any BJ fan in St. Louis where I went out of my way to chat with them. I also didn't recall seeing very many BU and ILSU fans conversing, nor SIU and CU fans. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. I dunno.

Yes, it's a fun event and if things don't get too competitive, it's fun to sit down with the majority of fanbases. Unless you're close friends with people, you just don't see KU and KSU fans hanging around too closely, as I'm sure it's the same with most fanbases who have some heat between them.

And I just wanted to add, as I do so many times, for as much as I can't stand CU, I do feel sorry for them regarding them being associated with that professional media mogul. Their message board gets overran in a flash. They get embarrassed because of constant twittering/facebook issues that puts Creighton in a dark shadow. Every article he rights is littered with grammar abnormalities that make the site look third-rate, which in turn makes Creighton look third-rate.

The list goes on and on and I'd be here a while if I mentioned every single detail. In short, even CU doesn't deserve this much embarrassing garbage. For the sake of the conference, it would be best if he got dropkicked all the way back to Massachusetts and into endless obscurity where he truly belongs.

When you are being the grammar police, it helps if you spell words correctly.
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

Other than that, WSU is the one game every other team in this conference points to, like it or not. Doesn't matter if WSU is good or not, everybody circles the WSU game.

Whoa. I didn't know Cold posted here. :o

WuDrWu, please tell me my sarcasm meter is broken and you don't honestly believe this, do you?

I have to tell you, one year (several years ago) a couple of kids at Arch Madness asked me if I was 'Cold during a random conversation. I laughed for days. It still makes me chuckle.

You know me mel, and I don't think I have to answer that question.

SIU-CU was the best rivalry for the past decade, but it died pretty quickly when the teams slid. I think the next decade has the potential for WSU-MSU and CU-UNI to be great rivalries.

bigdawg,

I'm not sure if UNI/CU will take off or not. I know many UNI fans are pretty upset with McD, but I don't think CU fans have any issue with UNI as a "rival". I know Mac and Jake are really good friends, so I don't see them doing anything to stoke a fire between the two schools. I think it will take a few years of big time court battles to even begin to fuel anything, but even with that it will be a strech without some other provocations.

With SIU we had several years of big games that kept ratcheting up the rivalry. But another part of the fun with SIU was the physical thug style of basketball they played and the fact that they made up tshirts about h8ing cr8ton in St Louis. SIU students chanting "korver swallows" and going after his parents in Carbondale were other highlights. Also as a CU fan it was easy to dislike Weber b/c he was so animated on the sideline and seemed to react very emotionally to every little thing. Add some things like that to close games and you can develop a decent rivalry. I don't see Jake and Mac doing that sort of stuff.

Plus half of our university is from UNI....I'm beginning to think that there is something in athletic contracts about wearing purple underneath the blue.

Are you kidding me? The "friends" angle is one of the #1 reasons why it has a chance to become a good rivalry. :!:

Just because the coaches may not be swearing at each other doesn't necessarily make the rivalry any less intense for the players and fans.

With theJake/McD and theMcD/UNI angles, added to the fact that both programs have been very successful lately, this has a chance to really take off.

Jayball, we are using different definitions of rivalry. I don't think it has to be hate filled. On the court are two of the best mvc programs plus McD coaching his kid against his old school and his best friend had the makings of a great on court rivalry.
