Why is it Creighton fans can't seem to understand the concept of defense and relativity?

If the DPOY isn't on WSU's team this season, then there is something wrong with the voting.

Echenique would get my vote simply because his style of play is different than anyone else and teams have a tough time with him. There are a lot of good guards but not one who's light years better than the others.

Why?

First of all, I'm not sure that WSu even has the best defense in the conference. UNI, MSU and UE might want to argue that point.

Secondly, if the best TEAM doesn't have to have the best individual player, why is it that that the best defensive player has to come from WSU?

I don't think you know what relativity means.

Throughout most of the year, UE statistically was one of the worst defenses in the country. Even as of late since they have improved on the defensive end, there aren't many teams in the nation that are worse of defensively.

Well, by this metric at least, I stand corrected. I'm surprised that UNI ended up so far down the list.

There are about 4 games that really hurt UNI....That is a very interesting site though. There also isn't "much difference" between about #100 and about 160I've bookmarked it and will use it for years.

Lol.

I'm certain you have no idea what defense means. Care to re-think that little nugget about which team has the best defense? Evansville??? Perhaps you'd like to argue for Big Mac or, even better, Chris Lowery for COY?

Who said the best team has to have the best player? It happens more often than not, but it's neither a rule nor a fact. I have stated Doug deserves the POY because the voting isn't limited to Valley games only. He deserves the award, regardless of the fact he's atrocious defensively.

But if it comes to fruition (as I think it will) one would have to question how CU could have the POY and DPOY (as well as possibly the NOY) and yet, somewhat inexplicably, finish 2 games out of 1st place.

I think the average non-biased fan would struggle to grasp how that is possible, but I could be mistaken.

When Dinma Odiakosa won the DPOY, a pretty good argument could have been made that Osiris Eldridge was the best player in the league. IIRC, he was among the leaders (if not the outright leader) in scoring. That team didn't even make the NCAA tourney.

The 2010 voting certainly placed a little more emphasis on defense, winning and intangibles than they did on scoring. Good for them. I doubt this year's voting follows suit however.

I would have taken Adam Koch over OE any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Doug's offensive numbers are so much ahead of most of the field, for the entire season, that it's hard to argue for anyone else. I don't think that's the case with the DPOY, meaning an argument can be made for several other players, easily.

I do think WSU has the best defense in the conference. They do not play slow grind it out basketball and still lead the conference in most defensive categories.

the are #3 in point scored against per game....by .8. pretty negligible difference.
#1 in opponents shooting percentage.....39%
#1 in 3pt defense.....31%
#1 in rebounding margin
#1 in blocked shots

However, I haven't seen very many shocker fans point to one guy as a standout that should get DPOY?
All I see is people complaining about GE being considered. Who would you suggest? And why should they get it over GE, Odum, Weems, carmicheal, ect.
