was Jimmy Crews a good coach? ;)

Unfair job coaching D1 BB, either live up to expectations or eventually lose your job as head coach even at schools with athletic budget woes.

btw, we're both too old, close minded and set in our ways to graduate.

If I may join this discussion My opionon of JIm
Crews was a Coach that got caught up by an Aministration that dismissed sports. Crews did fine until Wallace Graves wasn't Dean any longer. His predecessor destroyed the sports agenda at UE ,including discontinuing football at any level, It had already been decimated. He couldn't do away with soccer because the International student representation. Crews as a coach had the fortitude to continue under restrictive circumstances. A good coach tough times at UE. At Army ,Senators are powerful people

Uh, that post is EPIC FAIL.

Drake is a legitimate second place pick in the Valley next year. Evansville is a legitimate 3rd-place pick in the Valley next year.

WSU is probably a legitimate pick to avoid Thursday next year - and that's about the extent of the realistic expectations for WSU. so should WSU fire Marshall, buy out his contract and try to get a "non-mediocre" coach into Wichita?

Next years teams to beat are (in no paticular order); Creighton, Drake, Ill St, UE (maybe)...then we'll see who after that. If any of Drake/Ill St/UE are a Thursday team, their coach will be on the hot seat. Not that they will/must be fired, but their respective job will be at the tipping point.

btw, congrats to the aces on a winning record this season.

If you cannot debate with the big boys, stay off the board.

Again, are Weber and McDermott good coaches?

No fanspeak.

Ace Dad - love the "if you cannot debate with the big boys, stay off the board". That's hilarious. No disrespect intended.

Let it be known that its not like Marty is universally loved in Evansville. On December 6, I had folks in my living room asking how long UE would stick with Marty. My answer was "indefinitely."

The program was in really sorry shape when UE let Steve Merfeld go, suffering from much the same malaise for which Lowery was let go. Symptoms included defections, poor graduation rate, negative press because of player actions off-campus, and on-court stinkage.

Now that UE has two .500 seasons in a row, my hope is that the recruiting message is changing from "we had success thirty years ago and fans still watch because of that" to "we can be consistently in the top 100 rpi if we fill our roster with players like you"

Some facts for reference:
- December 6 was the date of a 40-some point loss at North Carolina.
- UE hadn't earned two consecutive .500 seasons since 1998/99 and 1999/2000 (the last two years of a four-season streak)

How are the recruits for UE next year? They have great pieces (Ryan and Holmes) but if they don't have a space filling big man next year (Juco?), they aren't going to improve that much IMO.

We need a JUCO big man who can step in and play 20 minutes.

If there are UE fans not happy with Marty, they are idiots. The guy does more with less than anyone in the conference (outside of maybe Jacobson at UNI). I think he is a great strategist.

Marty inherited a mess and has done a great job turning around a program that was an auto bid to the play in game every year.

Get a JUCO 5, move Sawvell to the four and UE would be in great shape to contend for a conference title next year.
