I guess you'll need to spice up another story to replace this one, then you can all be outraged over that instead. Enjoy!

There are really 2 separate issues here. The press conference is the first. I watched the press conference and while I think he could have handled it better I think he (Marshall) deserves some slack. I didn't care for a couple of his comments but they weren't that out of line.

But it's been reported that he said "The valley get what they want, if they don't want us in the championship game, then they got what they want". That was reported on Shockernet. I believe they said it was said by Marshall on the radio post game. If that's not true I'll be the first to apologize. But if it's true....then that's just about the most idiotic statement a D1 coach has ever made. And there would be no reason to think it's not true. I can't imagine that being made up?

Most of us on this forum are not shocker haters. I rooted for the Shox during the NIT and I'll do the same in the ncaa's.

You know I have the utmost respect for Illinois State and especially their fans. They are still second favorite on my list of Valley foes.

There were certain things that I didn't see before from Illinois State that showed up this game. If Jank's style was consistent every time, then that's one thing. But this is the first I've seen of these tactics. Wilkins dirtied the game up in a way I've never even noticed before. There's one thing to fire a team up and play with great intensity. But it's another to start shoving guys in the back and trying to get them in a fist fight 5 minutes into the game. Again, I never noticed this before. I would be much more kind to this type of strategy if it were used on a consistent basis than in a one game showdown. I also didn't really think it was cool for Jank to high-five Wilkins after he was ejected following his second technical. I would think most coaches in that type of situation wouldn't be high-fiving their players after those type of fouls. It wasn't just one, it was two technicals and an ejection. Again, I didn't expect that kind of reaction. That's where I lost respect.

Baller you and I go way back. I think you know how I feel about the Shockers. It's always been positive. A matter of fact, I can't think of a bad exchange I have ever had with them person.

After reading the above, I honestly think you are looking for something that isn't there. If you honestly think that Tim Jankovich's gameplan was let's get technicals and lets rough them up and if you get kicked out of the game because of it, Jank will applaud it.....well maybe Marshall is right there are black helicopters flying overhead.

Jank told the guys not to back down from your big boys. I am sure he told them to be the aggressor. If you saw either of the games we played with you guys in the regular season, you guys were the aggressor. You threw the first punches in those games (figure of speech) and we never fought back.

John Wilkins is no where near a Dennis Rodman type player. His game has always been soft. Last year all he did was hang around the 3 point line. The fact that he didn't back down from Stutz or anyone else, is what Jank applauded. If you think it was for getting kicked out or being dirty (as Jank directed), than you sir do in fact believe in conspiracys.

I could supply you with link after link about how "soft" our team has been this year. How when things get physical we have backed down and started jacking nothing but treys. This year when we hit St. Louis, something clicked first vs. UNI. It's like they grew up and refused to back down. We had been waiting for it all year and it finally came.
After that, Illinois State just played the better game and took it to WSU. They hit big shots and played great defense. They deserved to win.

I was really surprised that WSU didn't adjust to the intensity of the game. Rather than fight back (with effort / intensity), I think you guys got soft and started to whine about the officiaiting. Throw in the fact that you guys have had your "issues" in St. Louis and it all developed into the perfect storm.

No link, it was relayed by someone who was right there, in the flesh.

What did this source have to say about the altercation with Elgin?

Nothing.

I am not so sure this went down like you have described here.

Here is a link to a chat session with the Pantagraph's beat writer Jim Benson:

Hi Jim, I read some of Greg Marshalls post game comments and it appears he was blaming the refs for the loss. Did you get that same feeling in the media room? If so, i think its ridiculous. There was a pretty bad missed call on Tyler Brown towards the end of the game. Refs were letting them play and that went both ways

Without a doubt. He also bullied his way into the press conference first when ISU was supposed to go first as the winning team. He told MVC officials he was ready to go. When they told him he had to wait, he dropped several f-bombs. So they let him go. Ridiculous. Did he not think Jankovich and ISU didn't have any complaints about some of the calls? Let me tell you, no one in the press room was crying any tears to see Marshall drive down the road home to Wichita on Saturday night.

Just my opinion, but that's a little different than Marshall asked three separate individuals for permission to go into the media conference room to get it over with.

In all three cases, permission was granted.

Nothing.

Probably wise because nothing about it makes Marshall look good.

And I don't think your "source" is being completely accurate in his reporting. Is your "source" Marshall himself?

Classy, if true. It seems like more Creighton fans are interested in this thread than Illinois State and Wichita State fans.

The rest of the Valley is just discovering what we've known for awhile. :bounce:

I think from what I'm reading is, the consensus is that nobody knows what really happened.

Check the time Jim Benson? put his little "chat" out - around noon on Sunday.
Bob Looooootz's editorial (his musings - not fact) came out (in print) in the Wichita Eagle about 6 a.m. However, it was available online around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Mr. Bob godLutzgod, is the one that put the story out - he is the one that said "conspiracy theory." He is the one that coined the phrase "bullying." He and coach Marshall have never got along, and Bob siezes every opportunity he can get to promote himself and get his digs in.

This is what I believe.

Thanks for playing.

...and now Bob has edited his editorial...if you have the original to compare with this one...feel free...

http://www.kansas.com/2012/03/03/224040 ... ettas.html

You would have to have the original in print, unless you can recall exactly what was said in the original..the only one showing now is the edited version. He no longer states "conspiracy theory or bullying."

His opinion now says "vendetta," but doesn't really say Coach Marshall said these things; it appears to be aimed more at readers that would suggest such things. Shockernet posters most likely, it is widely accepted that he reads it.
