Give him credit I don't think he has had a technical since. He even DIDN'T pull a Billy Tubbs when mvc refs were threatening the wsu crowd with a technical for to loud of booing and told us to quit.

I'm pretty sure he had a technical at UNI a year or two later.

Gregg just isn't the mild mannered, cookie cutter coach that the Valley is teeming with and used to having around. He's a little rough around the edges, no doubt.

But like someone said, all he does is win.

He's not going to fall in line behind the masses and join in the Valley line dance of parity. It's who he is, and he's going to be true to himself, I promise you, before he's going to do things someone else's way.

Now that's funny, and also very sad because I'm positive that you truly believe it.

Evidenced, no doubt, by the multitude of NCAA tournaments he has taken WSU to, plus the countless MVC regular season and tourney titles during his tenure.

Bob Knight Jr.

From an outsiders perspective, Marshall seems like he has a maniacal desire to win. That can be a pretty good quality for a coach and that drive will not let him rest until he is successful. He also seems to take the student part of student athlete very seriously. His benching of Ragland early in the year shows he will hold his players to a high standard. Those two qualities are great for a coach and a university, and IMO the league. I want highly competitive yet ethical coaches. That sort of competition can make us all proud of the league and help drive up the expectations for all.

However as with Knight, those qualities can become a weakness if they become completely unbridled from reality. Can any WSU fan argue that Knights behavior eventually became a problem?

I don't think Marshall has done anything that bad yet, but he's hotheaded and has an ego. I hope that doesn't become his downfall because it is fun to have him around. I can understand coaches having heated press conferences after losses, but cultivating league-wide conspiracies is a stretch. Luke warm apologies aren't going to help him but i don't think he cares to much. Next year's media day will be fun if he is around.

Refresh me on how many regular season Valley titles McDermott has? How about any conference?

Gregg's resume dusts McDs.

Again, can someone show evidence Marshall said there was a conspiracy theory? I still haven't seen it and yet you sanctimonious d bags keep spouting off like mother Theresa reincarnated.

He has as many regular season titles as Marshall has conference tourney titles. Last I checked, Marshall has only one regular season title while at WSU anyway, so lets not act light it is a light year difference. Heck, this time next year they could be tied with one each.

In his two years at Creighton, McDermott will have taken the Jays to as many NCAA tournaments as Marshall has in five years. McDermott also has more conference tourney titles (1-0).

I think that Marshall is a helluva recruiter, but his "winning" at WSU is pretty overrated IMO. I could make just as strong of a case that Marshall underachieves, based on talent, more than he overachieves or even lives up to expectations.

I'm not catholic, but is that supposed to be a bad thing?

Seriously though folks, there is a legitimate discussion to be had here, but let's lay off the name calling --- both in reference to Coach Marshall and each other.
