Agreed. 28 wins in a top ten conference, MVC champs...That has to be worth at least a 7.

I'm actually disapopinted for you.

You shoulda laid down for the 'Birds. That way you would have avoided the dreaded 8-9 seed and we would have had three teams in the NCAA. Shame on you.

I agree, if I knew we were gonna get an 8 seed, losing would have probably given us a 11 seed an easier path to the sweet 16 and we would have had 3 teams in....

Because beating WSU in the conference championship would have changed Creighton's non conf sos?

Nope, it still would have sucked.

What it would have done was given them another top 50 win, top 100 win, and another win against a tourney team. Illinois St. gave them none of that.

The NCAA hasn't come out with their RPI this week, but according to Warren Nolan, Illinois State is a top 100 win. http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2012/schedule/Illinois-State

Say they beat WSU instead of Illinois State, what seed do you think that moves them to? Keep in mind, their non conf sos does in fact stay at 189.

Hypothetical. There is no telling that CU would have beaten WSU in a championship game.

Maybe they looked at the championship as an almost loss to ISU rather than a straight up championship win. It's also possible that the NCAA committee had a matchup of McDermott and Barnes in the 3rd round in mind the entire time and there would be no escaping the 8 seed they were given.

Bottom line is that WSU got the seed that they earned (could have been a 4 or even a 6) and Creighton got screwed (should have been a 6 or maybe a 7).

Wow. Very telling. I don't see this as whining, I see it for what it is...exposing the bias if the selection committee.

The problem is polls are not any type of objective measure of what reality represents. They are governed generally by poll mechanics (VCU coach left KU off their last ballot by - whether by mistake or on purpose?)

If you look at the NCAA S-Curve. The lowest 7 seed team was Florida. Is CU body of work better than Florida? No. It close, but their overall body of work that the NCAA looks at is better than CU.

RPI - CU 23, Florida 28
SOS - 25 Florida, CU 114
Avg RPI Win - 136 Florida, 152 CU
Avg RPI loss - 47 Florida, 81 CU
Top 50 - Florida 4-6 (or 4-2 if you remove the 4 losses to #1 seeds), CU 4-1
Top 100 - Florida 5-3, CU 2-2
Best Wins - Florida (#17 FSU, #25 x 2 Vandy, #36 Al), CU (#12 WSU, #26 SD St, #34 LB St)

Had a couple MVC teams (i.e. ISUR, MSU, UE or ISUB) played a little better and got a little separation and had Top 100 RPI, CU resume would have looked a lot better with 3 or 4 more Top 100 wins. Had they played WSU in the MVC tournament and won - might have put them over the top.

It is the same way if you look at WSU moving up on the S-Curve to 4-Seed (Lowest 4-seed is Louisville).

RPI - WSU 12, Louisville - 13
SOS - Lous (8), WSU (47)
RPI Win - Lou (119), WSU (139)
RPI Loss - Lou (35), WSU (63)
Top 50 - Lou 8-7, WSU 2-3
Top 100 - Lou 5-1, WSU 4-0
Best Wins- Lou (9-Marq, 14-GT, 15-Memphis, 25-Vandy, 32-Ucon, 34-LBS, 40-ND, 42-Cincy), WSU (1-UNLV, 23-CU).

WSU again like CU would have been helped out if there was less parity in the MVC and could have used another shot at top 25 (in this case need a couple more Top 25 wins).

Nobody likes to be on that 8-9 line, but it does give you one thing, and that's an amazing opportunity. It puts you on a big stage with a chance to do something special. UNI fans were super pissed about our seed two years ago too (rightfully so), but that turned out to a be a huge blessing because it gave us the KU win. It may have been the signature moment of the tournament, and was certainly the signature moment in the history of UNI's program.

This UNC team is not as good as that KU team was. Certainly winnable if you can get past Bama.
