UNI's Budget Tightening Continues

interesting article in the DSM Register about UNI's financial woes.

State funding will continue to diminish the next few years. How much of the current state funding is used for athletics?

How is an opinion piece from the Des Moines Register relevant to basketball?

Tighter funding for all UNI program's that includes Men's BB program. I'm told that budget cuts will be needed across the board at UNI. Would like to hear from the UNI experts what they expect for athletics, especially men's basketball.

Is that ok Mr DUB? :D

Across the board? I thought UNI basketball was immune from these budget cuts? This has to worry Jacobson.

Nope! The bankrupt donor will make a new fortune and give it all to the MBB program.

Solid thread about an opinion piece with exactly zero references to cuts in the UNI athletic department. Heck the article doesn't even bring up the UNI athletic department or UNI basketball.

Went to panthernation and found a thread on all this. Looks like they could be forced to cut 500K more from their athletic budget depending on budget bill outcome. Could be wrong on that, had to sift thru a bunch of political talk.

What is the UNIs strategic plan?

Are they sustaining or increasing income via State/Federal government?
Are they sustaining or increasing income via tuition?
Are they sustaining or increasing income via non-academic programs?
Are they sustaining or increasing income via donors?

Are they cutting academic budgets?
Are they cutting athletic budgets?

How does any of this affect MBB?

They have already cut the athletics budget by 500k if I remember correctly. They have also cut the lab school which should save quite a bit of money. They are also cutting 58 different academic programs or so. The Governor wants to increase funding at the state universities also. We will see. I think if they do cut athletics it would have to be related to football. Either cutting the program or cutting scholarships. If they keep playing two FBS money games a year they might be able to shirk cutting more from the athletics budget. Any other cuts to athletics are just hearsay as of now. We will see what comes.
