Given the state of the program and the finances at SIU, and the enormous buy out of Lowery...

This is as good of hire as I could have hoped for. Heck, even without those factors, I beleive it to be a good hire.

Welcome to Carbondale Barry, but, you've got a big mess to clean up...good luck, you're gonna need it.

This is a great hire. The guy was successful in the Valley and will have the Ugly Dawgs competitive in 2-3 years.

I also hope that the Salukis beat the Bears 3 times during the 2012-2013 season and 3 times during the 2013-2014 season.

My third favorite team in the Valley are now the Ugly Dawgs.

Honestly I think he will do a fine job at SIU. Not a horrible hire considering the amount of debt they put themselves in with the whole Lowery thing.

Coach Hinson will bring wins and winning BBQ to Carbondale.

An excellent hire for the Salukis. He recruited well and his teams were screwed over by the NCAA selection committee more than once. I have to ask some of the smart aleck MO State fans........"How many dance tickets have you punched since he was let go"? Other people around the Valley don't look forward to playing him again and I don't think MO State will either in a couple of years.

Given only one MSU fan has made any negative comments you might want to check your own condescending comments NO. I think Barry will do a solid job at SIU but I also think a 9 year relationship with someone gives those involved some grounds for comment good or bad. It only took 3 years for ZO to bring a championship to MSU, something Barry was unable to do, so that's also part of the equation. No one is more aware that BH had at least 2-3 NCAA Tourney level teams than MSU fans, but as everyone else has always pointed out, it didn't happen.

Having had many conversations with Barry over the years and truly wanting him to succeed, I'm happy for him and this opportunity. He desreves it as much as anyone. Makes for a very interesting Valley the next few years as I doubt the incestuous sharing has run it's course yet in terms of coaching and player movement.

We're putting the band back together!!!!!

With Creighton hiring McDermott and now SIU hiring Hinson, were are trying to recreate the valley days of 2006! To keep this trend going, we need the next school with an opening to hire Jim Les.

In all seriousness, I think that HInson will do fine at SIU. With all of the negativity surrounding Lowery, a true good and approachable guy like Barry will be a bit of fresh air down there. Oh yeah, Barry's teams also like to score, do the "commotion offense" will be a thing of the past.

:+1:

There are many Bears fans that like Barry and wish him well. But saying that at the end of 9 years MSU made the right choice in letting him go. That's more than enough time to bring home a conference championship or an NCAA tournament appearance.

Barry was a pretty good coach at MSU. He just didn't ultimately get us where we wanted to go. But people do change. They grow and learn from their mistakes. I think he could be very sucessful at SIU.

Barry coached in an immeasurably better MVC that had 2-4 bids every single year. Cuonzo won his title in what was the worst year in the MVC in over a decade, and it also did not come with an NCAA bid. IMO, those MSU teams Barry had were better than MSU's 2011 team.

Barry is a good proven coach, and I think he will do great at SIU.
