They do? Do you mind looking up the ESPN contracts between the Valley and the A-10? I would bet that the Valley's is better.

I don't know about that. The MVC has to produce our own games. Is that true with the A10? I also know I watched a couple of regular season A10 games on CBS this year. The A10 also has a contract with the new CBS college sports network that broadcasts all games in hi-def.

As for the TV contact, it all depends on how you look at it. Well, really it all depends on how you sell yourself on the Valley's ESPN contract. In my opinion, the A-10's is better. While more Valley games are technically broadcast on ESPN, the vast majority are rebroadcasts on ESPN3. There are only a handful of Valley games broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2. The vast majority of true ESPN Valley broadcasts are on ESPN U. Conversely, there are a minimum of 16 A-10 games on ESPN or ESPN 2. 36 A-10 basketball games Will air on the ESPN networks, ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNU. ESPN 3 games are not counted in the package.

So, while there are more Valley games on the ESPN platform, most of them are on the internet, which in my opinion, diminishes their value.

I am slightly torn about this possibility. We are a Midwest school and I would like a midwest conference. I would be excited to play Xavier, Dayton, and probably SLU and St Joes as they would likely be upper tier MVC teams most years. I would not not excited about Fordham, Lasalle, Duquesne, St Bonnaventure.

Richmond, UMass, Rhode Island, and GW have been good and have been bad. No idea what to expect from them year to year. I would call that a push for the Valley.?

If the rumors are true and the A-10 is adding VCU, Butler, and GMU that sounds like three good programs to add. All three programs have recent success nationally and have good coaches. I do worry about the long term viability of those programs. Is VCU going to fold if/when Shaka leaves? They have been top 100 RPI since 2003. They were about a .500 program for 20 years before that. I suppose every program is one bad hire away from mediocrity but I don't know enough about those schools to feel totally comfortable about long term. Right now all three would likely be upper tier Valley teams. I am not sure that is guaranteed to hold.

I would not be excited for all the East Coast travel. I would miss the regional rivalries. I enjoy playing WSU, UNI, Drake and talking smack with relatives/friends/coworkers.

I would miss St Louis it has become a fun tradition and reunion weekend with college friends.

It feels like Cu has to keep options open as other schools are looking to move and try to position themselves. I don't want to be stuck in a dead end midwest conference that becomes the Summit League. I like the Valley and our history there. That would be tough to leave behind but I wonder if we really have a choice if the opportunity presented itself. I doubt WSU would stay if they had opportunities. Il St seems to be looking to move FB up. Eville rumors to go to Horizon. who the heck knows what will happen.

Many (most) of the ESPN3 games were MVC-TV games. Thus, ESPN3 turns a regional broadcast into a national one, which is a good thing.

MVC TV games are games on FSMW are they not? How would they be put on ESPN3?

They are blocked out to states who receive MVCTV.

As I said, I believe ESPN favors the A-10. I prefer to watch Hi def basketball on a national network. Maybe you prefer internet TV. Nothing says major sports like buffering a rerun on a 17 inch monitor, which I'm sure the average fan in NYC does routinely.

I agree, I only watch ESPN3 when at work, WSU is playing (and I have no other option but to watch it on ESPN3), or when a Valley team is playing that I want to see. I'm a college basketball junkie and I'm not going to sit in front of my computer to watch a game unless it effects my team.

Or you could hook your computer up to your TV with a $5 dollar HDMI cable.
