UNI fans referred to him an Anthony James type player and expected him to play a decent amount of minutes. Pretty noteworthy loss if those projections are true.

And in other news, this story made me laugh http://www.desmoinesregister.com/articl ... d|mostview

Not a horrific loss but I do think he'd be a pretty solid player. I think he reminds people of Anthony James but a little bigger, more defense oriented, and maybe a bit more of a point guard.

The thing is that this obviously opens a scholarship. I think it will be interesting to see. Jake has already said that if he can find the right player this spring then they will sign him. Otherwise they'll save it and have 5 open for next year. The wish list for most panther fans is probably unrealistic with hoping they could land Arizona State transfer Trent Lockett. He was from Minnesota and wanted to play closer to his sick mother. He's graduating so he wouldn't have to sit out. Minnesota doesn't have a scholarship for him but it's probably unlikely with Iowa and Iowa state both after him already.
More likely would be Tennessee transfer and Cuonzo Martin recruit at both MSU and tenn, Wes Washpun. He's from Cedar Rapids and probably wouldn't be a bad fit here. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up here now.

Pretty sure that Lockett is at the top of every midwestern school's wish list....

Lyle looked like he had potential, but I think some of it is wishful thinking by Panther fans. Some of the Anthony James comparisons seem to be from the fact that he wasn't real tall, but could absolutely jump out of the gym. Watching some pre-game warm ups he was dunking between his legs, and he is only about 6'1. I am not sure we can definitively say he was going to be the next Anthony James. He would have probably gotten some playing time, but I think he may have seen some writing on the wall about another year of mostly sitting on the bench next year.

I am disappointed to see him go just because I was curious to see what he actually could do in a game situation. I think he had talent, but who really knows what he was going to be. I guess we will find out when he lands some where new.

Not a significant loss. Had potential for the future, but wasn't going to see much PT (if any) next year.

If we use his scholarship for next year, it would probably be on a scoring guard, if any are available. If not, we will probably bank it.

Just last week you called him Anthony James 2.0. Are you holding out for 4G version?

UNI has nobody coming in next year. Although we do have some redshirts who have considerable expectations.

6'8 Chris Olivier--Post player with considerable size
6'8 Nate Buss--Athletic scorer on the wing
6'2 Matt Bohannon--Shooter
6'1 Jevon Lyle--Anthony James v2.0

Must be?

I was simply pointing out the players that UNI has coming in next year. He is similar in stature and in style of play to AJ, so I made the comparison so people who don't know him would have an idea.

I never made any claims of how good he was, or that he was going to play a lot of minutes. He likely was not going to see many minutes, if any at all next year, and the same thing goes for Bohannon.

I heard Royce White would be coming back now just to wear the purple and gold ;) Just kidding. Wes Washpun would be nice but I wouldn't be opposed to holding on to the scholarship and using it for the 2013 class since we are already looking at some really nice depth next season. The only draw back being that we then lose a player who has a year in our system under their belt.
[Insert snappy comeback]
