Nope, it's not a contest at all. Winning the NIT is far, far better than a one-and-done in the NCAA tournament.

WSU's 2010-11 postseason was better than their 2011-12 postseason. No question.

I wonder in the future when talking about WSU or Marshall's resume, how many sports writers will write "won the NIT in 2011" or "lost in the first round of the 2012 NCAA tournament" ?

Fred VanVleet - 25 pts, 7 boards, 8 assists PG. Mr. Illinois contender finished just behind IlSU's recruit.
Derail Green - 6'7" SF. Those who've seen him and WSU say he's a taller version of Murry or Couisnard - with better shooting range than they had.
Deontae Hawkins - 6'7" SF - Has had academic and discipline issues. If he gets his head on straight, he's considered a significant contributor as a Fr
Henry Uwadiae - 6'10" - 7' Nigerian playing his HS ball at a number of prep schools. Sketchy info on this guy. Considered raw on offense, but solid on boards, blocks, and D. A more polished version of Orukpe. No one will be surprised if he doesn't show or doesn't get NCAA clearance due to his school-hopping.

Maybe an NCAA appearance is better than an NIT championship, but WSU got a lot more of its priority recruits this year than any year since they signed Cliff Levingston and Antoine Carr.

WSU only got better recruits after the NIT because a different guy is in charge compared to the Sweet 16. If you want to use recruiting results in this argument you can say 2nd round CBI is better than the Sweet 16.

Winning the NIT is nice and gets you added exposure, but in the end, when you look at the stature of a program, the things you look at are National Titles, Final Fours, Elite Eights, Sweet Sixteens and NCAA tournament appearances.....PERIOD.

Absolutely a NT, Final Four, Elite Eight, and Sweet 16 are better. I'll even give you that the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament could arguably be better than winning the NIT. I would disagree, but you can argue it.

NIT appearances, if mentioned at all, will come after NCAA tournament appearances, conference titles and conference tourney titles.

Ignoring your blatantly pathetic insult for daring to disagree with you, almost every single article going into the NCAA tournament about WSU included the fact that they won the NIT the previous year.

Not that WSU went to the Sweet 16 last in 2006. Not that Marshall lead Winthrop to seven NCAA tournament appearances in nine years. Not that WSU was in the argument for an at-large bid for the previous two years. The one thing that was mentioned again and again was: they won the NIT.

Honestly, the only reason why WSU NIT win was talked about this year was because they were returning a good amount of talent back this year and were expected to be good (so of course people are gonna say, "WSU won the NIT last year"). If WSU lost all their starters from their NIT team, they wouldn't have been mentioned at all.
