Rice is the third announced player to leave Drake early this offseason. The first two to leave were reserve guards, and they're probably not big losses (although Rice is certainly a big loss). There are rumors more players will leave, but those are just rumors right now.

Sorry Drake fans. Tough blow.

Well reserve guards are suppose to become starters at some point.

Where is Rice transferring to?

Nobody knows for sure. I don't think Rayvonte knows, either. Everybody's first guess is Illinois.....Rice is from Champaign and always wanted to play for the hometown team, but they never offered. I've seen other people speculate Kansas State, because that's where Bruce Weber is now. That doesn't make sense to me.....Weber is the guy who didn't want him at Illinois; not sure he'd want him at K-State either.

I think his mom wants him to be somewhere where she can see all the games.

Drake University gave him a chance to play basketball in a top 8 conference and he pays them back by transferring.

I hope he finds happiness.

I hope he gets his degree.

Mom Rice, young men should learn about loyalty early in their lives.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

:+1:

"Loyalty”? Unfortunately it’s a term of the past. I'm very disappointed to hear this news. IMO, there's simply too many transfers every year.

Players should make a commitment and learn to keep it. I understand there are some good reasons to seek a transfer like a coaching change, however, too many players decide the grass is greener somewhere else. They’re likely to be ‘job jumpers’ in the future.

I’m too lazy to do the research, but it would be interesting to see a 10-year graph on player transfers. Surely the line would be trending up?

If the kid wants to transfer for family reasons so be it. No one in the Valley should question loyalty or commitment over family concerns. We should just accept it and move on. Best of luck to him.
