When I watched VnVleet play, I saw some jaw-dropping stuff. I think his ability to do the "normal" stuff is probably ahead of his ability to do jaw-dropping stuff.

I also saw Gal Mekel do some jaw-dropping stuff both before and after he arrived at WSU. Even though none of VanVleet's jaw-dropping stuff ended up in the fourth row (some of Mekel's did), I'm going to reserve judgement until I see him play D1 ball.

He appears to have the potential to be a significant contributor. He has the appearance of being one of WSU's better recent recruits. He's played against the #1, #3, and #5 PG's in the 2012 class this summer. The scouting services seem to agree that he outplayed everybody he faced all summer.

ESPN has upgraded VanVleet's ranking to #81 and rates him with 4 stars. That makes him the #15 2012 PG.

Word out of Rockford is that when VanVleet saw he was 15th, he spent 6.5 hours in the gym because he wants to be better than #15. The guy appears to have a work ethic.

Is it me or is he the only one in the top 100 who didn't have a picture? I find that odd, anyways, congrats Shocks!

Pretty excited to see what this kid can do. I love his work ethic. Should be exciting to see him grow. Definately can't question Marshall's recruiting skills.

Noticed that too. Kind of weird for sure. Oh well, recognition is good regardless. If he lives up to the hype...look out!

A few paraphrased give and take between FVV and an interviewer:

Fred, "I have to put the work in and compete with the others to get playing time."

Announcer: "Wichita is becoming a perennial tournament team, will coach Marshall leave?" Fred, "Coach Marshall says he loves where he's at and he's confident that he will be there when I'm there."

Fred, "The Shockers are bringing in a great recruiting class and I'm already in contact with my teammates."

Announcer: "What kind of a point guard are you?" Fred, "A leader first...I want to set my teammates up. I will do what I have to do. Passing one night, scoring the next, I'll let my instincts take over."

Announcer: "What is your goal?" Fred, "As a competitor, the NBA is a goal and a dream. I want to get my degree, and maybe play overseas ball if needed." Oh, and many of you will like this little nugget, "Another goal of mine is to win a NCAA championship!"

Announcer: "Did Illinois recruit you?" Fred, "My freshman year, they brought me in with some other recruits. I was not their #1 priority; I will never be a #2 priority."

Announcer: "WSU was a perfect fit with you?" Fred, "Yes, they've shown a lot of interest in me from the very start."

Announcer: "What do you like?" Fred, "I like lots of music, I like the Bulls."

Announcer: "Do you try to mimic Derek Rose?" Fred, "I used to more than I do now, he's now much more of a scorer, I try to take Kobe Bryant and adapt it to me."
Random MVCFans.com member, circa 2007: "Gregg Marshall is in over his head in this conference."
