Carl Hall - requesting 6th year of eligibility

It was mentioned in another thread, but it seemed worthy of it's own.

Would definitely be a big blow to us if he's not given the 6th year.

Cant imagine he will get it. Creekmore played 38 minutes his first year and lost his appeal.

My speculation in the Shockers - Offseason thread was fairly accurate. Hall played a couple of games of basketball and was then diagnosed with a heart condition. He got a medical redshirt for that year. Then he sat out the next year before going to NW Fla JuCo.

I imagine WSU's position on appeal will be that for the safety of Carl's life, he had to sit out that year because of the ongoing heart condition.

He lost a few games his So year at NW Fla due to that condition and has to be medically cleared each year to continue playing.

A player evaluating a life-or-death medical condition would seem to be the favorable argument for WSU. The unfavorable part for WSU is that Carl may have been able to take classes the year he didn't play. Then he could have graduated from JuCo in 3 years instead of the 4 he took from HS grad to JuCo grad.

That gets into the area of finances and the fact he couldn't get a scholarship if he wasn't playing. That may also be part of WSU's appeal. If Carl is not granted a waiver, he will be denied a scholarship and probably not get his college degree.

He won't get the waiver. This will be seen by the NCAA to be a benefit to mainly WSU.

Why would not he be eligible for financial aid?

Taylor Brown (Bradley) had a similar situation where he was forced to sit out due to a heart condition. He was not granted a 6th year.

Did it take Carl Hall 4 years to get through juco?

If he were to get an extra year it would be an atrocity. He deserves no more pampering it is time to grow up Mr. Hall.

Seems odd that this is only surfacing now. I wonder when the staff discovered this, while being recruited, only within the last couple weeks, somewhere in between?

You have to think it was after he came to school as I don't see too many staffs going for a one year juco.

A one year JUCO is a good deal. Typically a kid who qualifies for the NCAA and then goes JUCO, can go D1 with 3 years of eligibility. Some D1 schools require a JUCO to have a two year degree and this negates the benefit. Some JUCO coaches will recruit a kid who is a NCAA qualifier and not proactively "sell him" to D1 programs because he wants two years out of the kid.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

I think you were confused by the previous post, I think that he meant a JUCO player with only 1 year of eligibility
