This was his plan all along. Pretty ironic considering the piece ESPN posted today about how Stevens, Marshall and Smart are staying despite many BCS offers.

I wonder what he's gonna make? If it's more than doubel his current salary, how do you blame him?

was he recruiting for SMU on ISUR dime or for ISUR?

I can't see him going out and recruiting on the universities dime while this is all going on if he weren't staying.

So I think we can definitively say now he was recruiting for SMU on ISUR dime.

I never liked Jank anyway. He seemed like a Eddie Haskell who was only looking out for his best interests and was trying to shortcut the process to have the ability to move on.

Awfully quiet on the coaching search. You near names like Judson, Collins, and Muller - will be interesting to see who gets the job. I'm surprised the AD didn't have a short list of people who would be interested and that it wasn't done quickly considering that Jank's departure was rumored for over a week. It's recruiting season so it would seem beneficial to someone in sooner than later.

I suspect ISU will, well, pull an ISU after Kevin McKenna left. Hire one of the assistants, get a 14 NCAA seed, and then suck for the foreseeable future.

Their AD said in his press conference that he had been in contact wih several coaches (wouldn't give any names in the press conference--I lost the link?) No search committee--he & the University President would make the decision. Later...the Pantagraph listed these names as the people on the list:

Tim Buckley: Indiana
Chris Collins: Duke
Greg Gard: Wisconsin
Ray Giacoletti: Former ISU assistant under Bender.(Gonzaga)
Mathew Graves: Butler
Rob Judson: Isu
Steve Masiello: Manhattan
Dan Muller: Vanderbilt
Marty Simmons: Evansville
Dwayne Stephens: Michigan State

So it is likely the next coach will emerge from this list in the near future.

Right now it sounds like we are making a push for Chris Collins. If he says no, then it might be on to Dan Muller. If he says no, we might be looking at Ray Giacolletti or Rob Judson. I can't see us getting past those candidates as it sounds like all 3 of Muller, Giacolletti and Judson are extremely interested in taking the position. No clue on Collins thoughts, but the holdup might be emotions involved with coaching on his fathers court and in his shadow.

Of course, with Friedman, he may have a candidate out of left field from his time spent in the Big East. Pitino's son would have been an obvious one, but he took the position at FIU. Thats not to say we couldn't lure him away with a better offer, but his sone is only 28 and i'm not sure this team could be trusted to him.

I thought marty simmons was pretty dead set on E-Ville being a destination job for him.

Edit: Doug Collins confirmed today that Chris took his name out of consideration. He was interested, but both sides came to the conclusion that they did not want to hurt the great relationship ISU has with the Collins family if he were not to perform well or move on within 3 years.

Not exactly starship. The names above that the Pantagraph listed did not come from the AD. They were people who Jim Benson, the Pantagraph writer, thought might get some consideration. There is no way Friedman is leaking any list to the Pantagraph or any other media sources.

The AD, the President and BOT chair will be doing the decision making.
