Our last five are still collectively better than your starting lineup.

Oral Robers - athletic budget of $10,906,448.....average RPI of 95 the last 10 years
South Dakota - athletic budget of $8,551,777.....not even D1 until July 1st....would be worst facilites in MVC
South Dakota State - athletic budget of $13,127,986...average RPI of 279 since joining D1 6 years ago would be worst facilites in MVC
North Dakota - athletic budget of $17,388,012....not even D1 until July 1st would be worst facilites in MVC
North Dakota State - athletic budget of $15,351,245....average RPI of 225 since joining D1 6 years ago... would be worst facilites in MVC

At this point I stopped keeping track of numbers because the rest of the schools listed weren't any "better" than the ones I went through already, or they are in a BCS conference/have sweet gigs they won't leave for a conference with any of the Dakotas/ORU/etc...

You think UNI is a D2 school in a D3 town do some research on Brookings, SD, Vermillion, SD, Bismark, ND....or any of those schools listed that would jump at a chance to be with Creighton and WSU.

The state of North Dakota is awash in cash right now because of all the oil discovery there. They take great pride in their schools particularly UND and their athletic budgets and facilities will be every bit what most Valley schools are and probably better considering all the cuts we've seen at MVC schools. I bet in 5 years we wish we had UND and NDSU especially if we lose anyone from the Valley.

With the way that some of our fans act (Bear Nation honks), you would think that we would have made an NCAA tournament appearance at least once in the last say....13 years.

We suck at football, our basketball program is stuck in constant mediocrity. Baseball and volleyball, and (gasp!) the Lady Bears are the saving graces.

Oh come on. Will you stop it with the woe is me routine already? What a sorry, self defeatist attitude right there. Mediocre programs don't win outright league titles which we did just a year ago. Being a contrarian is your thing but come on man (say the last three words in Cris Carter's voice).

Isn't it crazy to think that there are two Bear boards now and one is led by a blind homer who cannot allow an ounce of criticism because apparently Moats and Lusk will personally call him out. And the other one is administered by a guy that cannot say anything postitive about the program he is allegedly a fan of. Sheesh. Happy medium. Find it fellas.

I just don't see it. The biggest problem with North Dakota schools is that they are in North Dakota - nobody lives there. And, nobody is lining up to go there for college. The schools are too far away from everyone. On top of that, I doubt there is much racial diversity in North Dakota. I don't know how FCS football works, but I don't see the ND schools being able to recruit well enough in basketball to compete.

If that isn't enough of a reason, ND schools are not going to do anything at all for TV contracts. Is it possible to have negative TV ratings?

I don't know as much about UND but NDSU is in Fargo which is really close to Minneapolis. When you take into acount the fact that the U is the only D1 school in Minnesota then the lack of population thing is not as big of a deal. I have looked over the athletic rosters of NDSU and a huge percentage of kids are from Minnesota. Like 2/3 in some sports. I bet they have a ton of alums there too. If you look 5-10 years down the line I think you can see legitimate potential in NDSU to grow into the most popular program in the Dakotas and a close second in Minnesota.

NDSU is not close to Minneapolis. It just has that perception at times because it is so deathly isolated up there in ND. Cedar Falls is actually closer to Minneapolis than they are even.

1. Fargo is further from the twin Cities than Cedar Falls.

2. The reason so many of their kids are from Minnesota is because Fargo is litterally on the boarder with Minnesota. Moorhead is directly connected to Fargo (think Minneapolis/St. Paul) and is in Minnesota. I'd bet Creighton has a ton of Iowa kids attending it.

3. They already are (would be argued by UND, USD, and SDSU fans) the second most popular school in the upper minnesota/ND area. They have to compete with a bunch of D2 and D3 schools for "fans".

However, outside of NW Minnesota and the SE corner of ND there isn't much for ND fans wide spread. South Dakota is pretty heavily split on the two Dakota schools.

Objectively look at North Dakota vs Evansville.. or NDSU vs Drake. Tell me which programs have greater upside. I get that the Dakotas are in no man's land, but Evansville, Terre Haute, and Normal are not adding much to TV contracts even though they are close to bigger markets.
