Hey hey hey there gang. Don't argue or debate with DJA because he is always right. If you have any doubts, just ask him.

As they say, "it's not pontification if you are right."

I think shedding Janovich might single-handidly fix the SoS problem the MVC has. And I'm not joking either.

What matters is having the bubble teams having strong resumes. The bad teams are bad and the good teams get in anyways, so it's the bubble teams that need to get stronger on average. Of course, ISU's been playing that role on and off for 5 years and chose to punt it away.

And I'm sorry, but it's easier to make it out of the A-10 to the NCAA tourney than the MVC. On average, the A-10 conference schedule offers more quality opportunities than the MVC. Not significantly, but it does, and that margin does matter when you're on the bubble.

So I am watching parts of the famous debates between John Adams and John Dickinson (Pennsylvania delegate to the Continental Congress who opposed independence from Great Britain) on the "John Adams" miniseries on HBO the other day, and suddenly it strikes me that the eloquence and passion of their debates is not unlike the arguments of DJA and Valley Champ on MVC Fans. O.k., maybe not quite the same, except for twisting the others words to fit their one cause and the refusal to let the other speaker to have the last word :D

Just kidding guys, carry on.

Here is my 2 cents until Creighton proves they are on top of the world financially I don't buy it. There is obviously some reason they are still here. Academically they are pretty good at the top of the MVC, but unless the church is funneling money to them I don't see where they are rolling in the the cash from. Sure +16,000 fans will bring in some money but I seriously doubt that trumps WSU. They are in a rented arena which is rumored to charge $45,000 per game and they get no cut of concessions. DJA I have sat back and watched this entire debate and admire your passion (the same passion everyone mocks Casey for having) but you have yet to provide 1 ounce evidence to support your claim. If CU leaves that would be a serious blow to the league, but let's not forget that the valley has survived the subtraction of some much larger more prominent schools over its history let's not pretend you are Duke when you are really NC State.

To be fair, NC State has 2 National Championships.

Is that a mitigating factor? I wasn't aware that past success dictated future success, sure history is helpful but there are dozens of schools that lay claim to basketball supremacy but only few have been able to sustain it for extended periods of time.

They did go to the Sweet 16 last year and are one of the favorites in the ACC next season.

Please. NC State had a flukey weekend last year and got to the S16. Nothing more, nothing less. Their history is tied entirely to Valvano. They are a third fiddle arguabley fourth in the state of North Carolina. Wait Davidson is there. Maybe they are fifth in fact.

Getting back to realignment, look the A10 did what any stooge out there would do if we were conference commissioner, they invited the hottest two flavors of the month in Butler and VCU. Heck they were close to adding George Mason. Their basic strategy it appears is to invite whatever midmajor can luck into putting together a couple of good seasons. Yeah that's a great long term plan. Shaking my head.

The Valley has been slow to respond but with the MWC Challenge ending what did you expect? Elgin to get on the bat phone with Delany and get the Big Ten to replace the ACC with the Valley? Ain't happening. If I was Elgin I'd be adding teams like crazy like Murray State, Belmont, ORU for starters but a lot of that is just strength in numbers stuff. It probably would not be prudent to just derr go and do it. I have been as critical of Elgin as anyone but at least he has a plan and has not budged. His counterpart in the A10 seems to be grasping at straws and losing the best property of his league: Temple. Soon enough the Big East basketball will split from that stupid, far flung football thing that stretches from somewhere in the East to San Diego. When that happens you bet your bottom dollar Xavier, Dayton, and UMASS are going to split. Shaka and Brad will leave those two schools they just added two. Let's see about VCU. Butler somehow has found a way to always be good even with bad coaches. In the end we need to wait before we annoint the A10 winners of realignment.

Finally if Creighton wants out. No one's stopping you friends. Door is right over there. If you want to attach your future with SLU and rub arms with nasty Xavier and Dayton fans then be my guest. At least there is tradition, class, and civility here. If CU or WSU leave it is largely just to show how supposedly important they are in comparison to the rest of the conference (see any of the four teams that left the Big XII). A way to pat themselves on the back and self grandicize. For schools like us or ISURed it is about football and reaching the highest level so we have legitimate reasons and if our time comes we will leave with grace and dignity. This crying you see from some in Omaha is getting a little old. I love Creighton and am proud to have them in our league but they are wearing on me.

I'm not going to address to the rest of the post, but the bolded sentence there is total b.s. Ever heard of David Thompson? NC State was a national player before Valvano.
