Please. NC State had a flukey weekend last year and got to the S16. Nothing more, nothing less. Their history is tied entirely to Valvano. They are a third fiddle arguabley fourth in the state of North Carolina. Wait Davidson is there. Maybe they are fifth in fact.
Getting back to realignment, look the A10 did what any stooge out there would do if we were conference commissioner, they invited the hottest two flavors of the month in Butler and VCU. Heck they were close to adding George Mason. Their basic strategy it appears is to invite whatever midmajor can luck into putting together a couple of good seasons. Yeah that's a great long term plan. Shaking my head.
The Valley has been slow to respond but with the MWC Challenge ending what did you expect? Elgin to get on the bat phone with Delany and get the Big Ten to replace the ACC with the Valley? Ain't happening. If I was Elgin I'd be adding teams like crazy like Murray State, Belmont, ORU for starters but a lot of that is just strength in numbers stuff. It probably would not be prudent to just derr go and do it. I have been as critical of Elgin as anyone but at least he has a plan and has not budged. His counterpart in the A10 seems to be grasping at straws and losing the best property of his league: Temple. Soon enough the Big East basketball will split from that stupid, far flung football thing that stretches from somewhere in the East to San Diego. When that happens you bet your bottom dollar Xavier, Dayton, and UMASS are going to split. Shaka and Brad will leave those two schools they just added two. Let's see about VCU. Butler somehow has found a way to always be good even with bad coaches. In the end we need to wait before we annoint the A10 winners of realignment.
Finally if Creighton wants out. No one's stopping you friends. Door is right over there. If you want to attach your future with SLU and rub arms with nasty Xavier and Dayton fans then be my guest. At least there is tradition, class, and civility here. If CU or WSU leave it is largely just to show how supposedly important they are in comparison to the rest of the conference (see any of the four teams that left the Big XII). A way to pat themselves on the back and self grandicize. For schools like us or ISURed it is about football and reaching the highest level so we have legitimate reasons and if our time comes we will leave with grace and dignity. This crying you see from some in Omaha is getting a little old. I love Creighton and am proud to have them in our league but they are wearing on me.
