We have had success does that make us better than Creighton, WSU or heck even SIU no it doesn't. I just think sometimes UNI fans don't like being told our success doesn't mean anything. Valley fans need to realize we aren't going anywhere. Does this mean we are better than anyone? That answer is no. However, we are bringing in our fair share to this conference right now which is more than many of the other schools can say.

If you look closely at my posts, I intentionally used words like "certain" and "some" when labeling certain and some UNI fans. These words were intentional as to not lump their feelings of superiority with the feelings of ALL UNI fans. Please don't feel like I'm lumping all UNI fans together, I'm not.

I apologize as I didn't see the "certain" in your previous post. After re-reading I have noticed it. Please be easy on my reading comprehension as I normally read computer code and not human language ;)

No apology necessary. My words were direct and terse. That was also intentional. The fact of the matter is this, the Valley is a very good basketball conference. But at the same time, there isn't a whole lot of prestige in any Midwest, mid-major conferences. And for that matter, no schools have strong, national brands. Some have had more recent success, some less, but the Valley is what it is, a good conference made up of a wide variety of schools that Somewhat fit together. There isn't a Butler, Memphis or Gonzaga in the group. Some are closer to that than others, But no schools in the Valley fit that mold. Sometimes a little success leafs some fans to think they are better and more important than they really are. A strong dose of reality is sometimes in order. UNI brings a lot to the Valley, UNI is good for the Valley, but UNI is hardly a leader in generating money or national prestige for the Valley.

Don't be surprised in 5-10 years if schools like Illinois State and Northern Iowa are gone.

With all due respect, Illinois St fans have been telling us that for about 10 years....

I do believe that if anybody leaves for football, IlSU will be the first. The question has been and will be the same one - do you screw over hoops, in order to improve your FB situation, and join the MAC or Sunbelt?

In one of those leagues we are probably going to make the NCAA tournament more than we are now don't you think? It wouldn't be all bad.

The one good thing about the MAC and ISUr has nothing to do with athletics but it would match ISUr with similar institutions wiht similar goals.

However, Double Jay, you are so right about the talk for 10 years and you will probably have to listen to it another 10 years. Any talk of ISUr leaving The Valley is merely pure speculation and I would believe I too am entitled to some speculation. I don't think ISUr is leaving The Valley nor does it have any plans to do so. I was fortunate enough to talk about conference affiliation with some well positioned people in the ISU athletic admininstration department and they don't want to change a thing. Going to the MAC, in their opinion would kill the basketball program and I would agree with that. Much more interesting to head off to RBA to see WSU or Creighton instead of Western Michigan or Kent State.

As for football, the ISUr program is getting better but so is ISUb. SIU is doing good things in football and do I need to say anymore about UNI and the Dakotas in football? Now I know this paragraph means nothing to the bball fans other than to say that ISUr wants to make a mark in FCS by challenging for the league conference and going deep into the football playoffs. If you believe Sagarin rankings are close to accurate, he has the MAC and MVFC almost in a dead heat in his ranking of conferences and it has been this way for several years. Go to the MAC for football when ISUr hasn't even acheived it's FCS goals?

In summary, I don't think anyone should expect ISUr to be leaving The Valley anytime soon.

Mo Valley John, my apologies to you. I have enjoyed your most recent posts.

If ISU or UNI plan to go to FBS in football I really think they will do what they can to find an FBS conference that will take them as a football only member in order to stay in the Valley. I know Dannen has talked recently about moving us up, but he really said he likes our positioning in the Valley. Now if other top teams like Creighton or WSU go to a different conference and the Valley heads down hill all bets are off on either team wanting to stay in the Valley.

Personally I love the idea of ISUr going to a FBS conference (for all sports)...but only if it's the MAC or better (i.e. not the SWAC). The upside of being in the FBS, but taking a slight step back in basketball (MAC vs. MVC), is a long term positive. There is way more revenue to be had with an FBS program and that money ultimately translates into upgrade infrastructure, which translates into more notoriety and, hopefully, academic integrity. Of course, in 20 years everyone will be getting their degree on line, so maybe none of this even matters....
