My apologies for not stating that clearly…I meant that MSU showed improvement from the first game to the second in both defense and rebounding. It's difficult to tell from an exhibition how good your team will be, however if you had two bad defense outings in a row, that might have been an indicator of concern.

Bradley beat D2 UW Parkside 70-42. Braves were much better in the 2nd exhibition game.

The BU defense has been much improved in the exhibition season. Also the turnovers have been down. Who knows if this will continue into the regular season.

JUCO transfer Tyshon Pickett had a double double (14 pts, 10 rebs). Senior Will Egolf had another nice game (13 pts, 5 rebs and another made three). Walt Lemon, Jr did his thing with 13 pts, 5 ast, 5 stl.

Bradley is an improved team over last years version. How many more wins will there be? I don't know but Bradley won't be blown out like they were last year.

No big deal. It's pretty easy to misinterpret things on a forum. I see what you meant now.

BEARZ77 wrote:Ditto, I think you misunderstood Wufan, glm. Secondly, don't worry about who's starting now, all 3 [Scheer/Williams/ Wilson] will be in our top 8 rotation and bring something to the mix. Scheer is starting because Pick had a diciplinary game penalty and because they want to watch his minutes early. Wilson and Williams are just alittle more familiar with the defensive rotations than Gavin and Marcus, having been in the system a year. Those 8 will play the bulk of minutes , with BM getting some minutes every game, and Simpson getting looks and perhaps an expanded role as the season progresses, especially if Scheer has season long shooting woes. But right now Simpson has alot of problems defensively and Scheer is one of our most dependable defenders. All 10 will play, even Aromana some, but that 1st 8 will see the floor 20 minutes or so each regardless who starts.

Yeah I know it's not a big deal who starts. I guess what I meant to say is that unless those 3 (Scheer, Williams, Wilson) don't pick it up offensively then I would think Gavin, Marcus and PIck would get the lion's share of the minutes. We would still need those 3 but maybe in smaller doses and certainly not all 3 in at the same time.

All 3 have time to pick it up though. I have heard rumors that we might redshirt either Simpson or the other Marshall (Bruce).

Panthers have Northern State (SD) tonight at 5:30. Its a team that we beat last year by about 20, Purdue beat by about 30, but actually beat Butler. They return everybody but a starting guard, should be some decent competition as far as D2 goes.

I know your quote was about the MSU game, but just wanted to mention that Drake's freshmen played a total of 75 minutes in DU's exhibition game last night.....and score 52 points. If only they were as far along defensively as they are on offense.

King appears to be a nice offensive option to as a stretch 4 reserve. Ugbede is a good strength/athleticism option at that position. Carter is a very good JUCO, and along with Mason and Madson will be solid at the PG. Hines and Ricks are nice additions at the SG.

I already like Simons, Van Deest and Clarke.

As always under Phelps, I love the Drake roster and deep talent. As always under Phelps, I am expecting Drake to be a .500 team. Phelps needs to produce with the talent soon or move on.

I think virtually every Drake fan would agree with the highlighted section of your post. We're tired of hearing about great recruiting classes without seeing results on the floor.

There should be no more excuses. Drake has good size (6-11 260 and 6-8 255 at the 5 and the 4), good outside shooting, and a very quick point guard who knows how to find the open man.

If I saw it correctly, SIU needed a late surge to beat Upper Iowa University by 11. It was a back and forth game until the last couple minutes I believe when SIU went on a 13-0 run.

Not familiar with the UIU Peacock's basketball team but the Saluki's shouldn't be having issues with them unless they aren't playing any of their contributors. I'd be interested to see what Hinson said to the boys following that one
[Insert snappy comeback]

Redbirds played a closed exhibition against Marquette. No idea what the score was, but supposedly some of the players posted it and were forced to delete those posts. If they were posting about it, my guess is that it was a good result.

We play Quincy Tomorrow. Might try and make it out to that one if I finish work early enough.

WSU beat D-2 Pittsburgh (Kansas) State 100-56. Staters were Armstead, Baker, Wessel, Hall, and Orukpe

Carl Hall had 23 and 7 in 26 minutes.
6-3, 218 lb freshman combo guard Ron Baker had 17 and 6.
Evan Wessel had 13 and Nick Wiggins scored 13 in 14 minutes.

Armstead played great in the first half, not so much in the second. Cleanthony Early played the stretch 4 off the bench. He was 1-11 with 4 points and 8 rebounds.
