On his weekly radio show, Phelps said "we need to play even faster".

Has somebody replaced Phelps with Paul Westhead?

Yikes! Those are John Starks in the NBA finals type of numbers....

Off night or not much of a shooter? Is that why Hall played 26 minutes in a blowout?

I'm surprised that Allen didn't start. That guy really impressed me in the three games I saw him play last year.

Good to see Threloff back. IlSU has some serious depth in the frontcourt.

Always going to be negatives in games. Thanks for pointing out one of those.

The team still shot 50% even with Early's ghastly numbers. He's the typical JUCO playing his first live game. He was a bit quick, maybe too quick with his shot, and a touch out of sync at times. His time will come. I'll take 1-11 from him in a meaningless exhibition game all day.

WCC: 1
Atlantic Ten: 1
MWC: 1
Big East: 1

I checked the box score and it looks like Early played solid minutes. Hall's 26 minutes look to be more related to White fouling out in only 11 minutes rather than to Early's struggles.

The officials, like the players, are in early-season form. Once the officials get a little more accustomed to the pace of games, I doubt that 3 of the charges White took would be called blocking fouls.

Hall probably played 20+ minutes (instead of 30+) because Marshall was trying to hold the score down after a half-time lead of 54-17. Unfortunately, WSU couldn't hold down the margin of victory by playing the end of the bench.

Marshall had to play some really stupid combinations to prevent the margin of victory from being larger. At one point VanVleet and Armstead were both in the game - and neither has practiced any position other than PG. At one point White was playing center with Early at PF and Wiggins at SF.

The opponent was a D2 team. The only thing that can actually be concluded from this game is that WSU has some offensive firepower. Possibly more than last year after losing 4 of the top 5 scorers.

If WSU ran a UE offense and ran everything through either Wessel or Baker, either one of those guys could get the points Ryan will put up.

If WSU ran a CU offense, Carl Hall would emerge as the best PF in the Valley. WSU bases their game on a lot of different players doing a lot of things - rather than pumping the stats of a single player.

If there is a better Fr guard combo than Baker and VanVleet in the Valley in the past decade - make it 20 yuears - I want to hear about them.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that 32 to 37 fouls were called in the second half on both teams. It was pretty ridiculous. Most of those fouls were very ticky tack fouls being called on both sides. It took both teams out of their rhythm and turned the second half into an hour and a half snoozer. It wasn't much to watch since we got a show in the 1st half with a score of 54-17 at half time. Other than all of those fouls, I was rather pleased.

So, Wessel/Baker are better than Colt Ryan, Carl Hall is better than Carmicheal and McDermott, and Baker/VV are the best Fr guards in the last 10 years.

Those are some bold statements based off of 1 exhibition game. I guess we shall soon see...

Off night for Early putting the ball in the hoop. Did some great things athletically. Lufile is injured so Hall had to play quite a bit. With White fouling out, he had to play a bit more.

Hall, Wessel and Baker were impressive.
