The conferences ranked in the 20's of RPI bounce around often with no clear conference settling into the high 20's and no real clear indication of who might be dropping into that level on a given year. As a rule, the MVC should avoid scheduling teams that from these bottom conferences. We don't always know who these conferences are going to be, but we have a pretty good track record to guess that the MEAC and SWAC will be among them. NO MVC school should be willingly scheduling these schools unless they are lumped in as part of a MTE field.

This year, 5 games are scheduled with MEAC schools. 2 of those are from MTE tourneys. The other three are playing at Drake, at Illinois State and at Wichita State (with ISU and WSU each getting saddled with an additional game from their MTE)

4 games are scheduled against SWAC schools. 1 is from a MTE (at Bradley), Evansville scheduled 2 home games with SWAC schools, and Missouri State is GOING TO a SWAC school to play :o

What is MTE?

Talking about the issue allows people to share ideas and to learn other perspectives as opposed to sticking our head in the sand.

Talking about basketball and then relating it to health, ecomomics, race, education, or history is fair.

Again: Creighton University and the University of Evansville did not allow black players on their teams for years. This is why the Alabama A&Ms exist today.

I do understand the basketball concern about low RPIs. Got it. If Alabama A&M has a RPI of 75, you would have no problem with them playing Evansville.

I'm not misrepresenting anything. On the contrary, you are misrepresenting and attempting to stifle discussion about a topic you don't like, as an alum of a SWAC school, by bringing irrelevant things into the discussion.

We all know discrimination in college admissions took place until forced integration about FIFTY years ago. That has nothing to do with the discussion taking place however. Nobody is saying shut the institution of Alabama A&M down no matter how many times you try to pretend or accuse people of saying that. All anyone is saying is that Alabama A&M should probably compete at a different level in ATHLETICS other than D1. That's all.

As to your little social strata comment, you couldn't be more off base. I want to talk about basketball. You don't want that discussion to take place.

Also, Creighton has beaten some good teams, but they have played 2 of their 6 games against Big South schools......the Big South is rated #29 out of 31 conferences per RPI.

Point is that all teams play "lesser competition" from time to time.

The two MEAC schools on WSU's schedule were not scheduled by WSU, but rather by the Cancun Challenge.

I understand scheduling can be difficult, but some people on here are actually saying its not a bad thing to schedule SWAC teams. It's that mindset that has set this place in a tizzy.

MVC: 1
WCC: 1
Atlantic Ten: 1
MWC: 1
Big East: 1

The Big East is Big Time.

North Carolina Central was on your own, not part of Cancun.

Looks as the majority MVC teams schedule low conference teams. Thank you Khan4 Cats. Goes back to the question of why dump the majority of this discussion on Evansville?

Thanks. Had never heard this term, although I am familiar with the type of tournaments.

And Creighton's games against the Big South were part of the Vegas Tourney.

DJ, good explanation. I now know you were not picking on the SWAC for the wrong reasons ;) By the way, I am not an alum of a SWAC school. I am a graduate of a HBC that played NAIA basketball. However, I have many friends who are graduates of SWAC schools.

Fair question. I can only assume you didn't see of AceDad's posts before they were deleted. Suffice it to say that this isn't really an issue isolated to Evansville at all. Since it does take place in an Evansville thread, I can understand why it may seem that way.

I said that SWAC or MEAC schools shouldn't compete at the D1 level. Acedad then essentially said that anyone who felt that way was obviously a racist and followed it with a "ya, I went there" comment. He later added that a person who thinks that is an "elitist" too.
