I remember the day when conferences were formed with regional ties and rivalries. But then the Almighty Dollar took over.. When the dust settles, schools are going to wish none of this garbage ever happened.

These Catholic schools don't care about money or silly basketball scores. Their whole purpose is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.....

I think the Big East is out of cards to play.

Their last card was probably UMass - new to FBS, good basketball. They could've been added as all-sport members, but it seems like there's a lot of on-campus divide on wanting to go back to FCS and not committing to mid-major FBS status. Watch this in the near future (could also open up another expansion slot to an FCS team)

If Aresco had UMass still on the board he could add them, swallow the football pill, and make one last run at the basketball schools staying.

The Big East Conference, the only to send three teams to a Final Four, will announce Thursday that its non-FBS programs are splitting from their brethren, sources told The Post.

Of all of the realignment to date, this is the one episode that actually makes logical sense. The remaining Big East basketball onlies are all regionally based and are trying to salvage what is left of their rivalries. They have no reason to support the addition of teams like Tulane...

There is A LOT of crap in the A-10. The top is VERY GOOD, but the rest of the conference? Not so much. So what I'm thinking is, what if the Big East Bball schools split off, then invite the top of the A-10. Xavier, Dayton, VCU, Ect. This is also predicated on the fact that the new Big East follows the money and does not form a Catholic League (something I find very likely)

this potentially leaves the Valley in great shape, as Butler and SLU might available then, and Creighton and WSU are not going to want to bolt for a league whose membership is limited to the crap in the A-10. Anyone else see this as a sort of possibility?

I wouldn't necessarily put it in those terms, but rather it does serve as a cautionary note when looking for greener pastures. When the A10 expanded in the early 1990's, Fordham and LaSalle were the dominant forces in the Patriot League and MAAC, respectively. On the other hand, Dayton and Xavier were in relatively low periods for their programs. Unfortunately, their trending as programs were going in opposite directions when they were entering the league.

So, the deal is there is no guarantee you move into a new league and continue your success; but seizing the opportunity can propel you to a whole 'nother level. You risk making the program irrelevant if you do not experience notable success fairly early in the process.

It is funny how things work out. At one point, UE was a more favorable target for the MVC than Butler.

Yes it is. The risk is absolutely worth it, too, IMO.

While they've been middling in the league, they are trending up right now and if there is a mass A10 exodus, LaSalle can come back in a big way.

yes, we are pious holy people for others and like WSU we don't care about money or conference affiliation.

I am sure that even if a basketball centric conference of powerhouse commuter schools emerged, Wichita would never leave. They are Valley to the core.

just do whatever it takes to stay in the same conference as WCC. that is the mentality any cu fan should have.
