Dayton will not join the MVC. They recruit their undergrads (not just athletes) from the east coast and have spent a ton of money developing a presence there. They are not throwing it all away to try and recruit kids from much less populous states.

Buter and SLu may be a different story, but Dayton will not come to the MVC.

IMO, if Creighton goes the Valley becomes the Horizon Leauge.

I see WSU lobbying hard to get into the Mountain West and UNI and Illinois State going to the MAC.

That leaves Drake, MSU, Bradley, SIU, InSU, and UE begging Murray State and Oral Roberts to get them to eight. Who do you beg to get to ten?? SIUE? The Dakota Schools? SEMO?? The choices get ugly fast.

I knew CU held a bunch of power, but after thinking about it, they hold ALL the power...

Dayton could be stuck in the following conference:

George Washington
Richmond
St Bonaventure
St Josephs
Rhode Island
Fordham
LaSalle
Duquesne
UMass

East coast notwithstanding, the MVC just has more pure basketball ability than that conference, IMO

One thing to remember:

Right now the Mountain West is in a 9/10 configuration (Hawaii as a football only). If the MWC regains SDSU/Boise and some Texas schools, they'll need a non-football member to balance Hawaii.

I think you could see Wichita State appear on their shortlist. Obviously BYU, Gonzaga, et al will be involved as well, but I think WSU would at least get a cursory look there.

And URI, Duquesne and Richmond are likely out of the picture when they go CAA for all sports.

Do they want to go CAA for all sports? It's been weakened lately.

But say that happens. Do you think we could see an actual dissolving of the A-10 in all this?

What about the remaining football Big East schools? Could they decide to stay together for football only and need homes for their other sports? Memphis? Cinci? It may be only temporary, but if I were Elgin, I'd be on the phone to let them know they can "come back home" to the Valley for their non-football sports if they want.

They will join the MAC.
