How well did it work out for Tulsa's basketball program when they left the Valley? C-USA was a pretty decent conference when Tulsa entered it. It still had Louisville, Cincy, along with Memphis. Tulsa hasn't been the same since they left.
Unless, I'm mistaken, Tulsa just won their conference in football. Tulsa made a conscious decision to sacrifice their basketball program for their football program. San Diego State has recently decided to do the same thing. That was their choice. With the money at play in FB, I'm sure there are others that hae done likewise.
The fact of the matter is that the new conference will offer more money in TV revenues and banked NCAA tourney credits. It will also more provide a greater number of NCAA tourney bids annually.
I do chuckle at these cautionary warnings made by so many in this thread. The funny thing about them is that every single school in this conference, if offered the opportunity, would jump at the offer. I hope that Creighton gets one, but keep cautioning everyone that we have not as of yet.
The chart of spending is actually a large part of what is so exciting to so many Creighton fans (and would be exciting to WSU fans too). Almost everybody in the conference spends in line with what CU spends already. there are very few living off of the spending and commitment of others. I think all Creighton fans really want is a group of schools committed to competing at the highest levels. If the MVC had that, there wouldn't be any need to look around. (note: WSU absolutely gets it and I don't think anyone at Creighton questions WSU commitment levels).
