There would be some start up costs (coaches, bringing the football stadium up to speed, equipment, etc.), but I would think WSU would be able to get a revenue neutral FCS program up and going within 2-3 years. Obviously their goal would be higher than that, but I think you would first want to get to that level until you know next steps.

Old Dominion and Charlotte are mid size public schools that have started football programs within the last several years, ODU has been wildly successful and is on their way to thr FBS. Someone would have to research what their startup costs were but they have been a success story and would be a good model to follow if the support is there.

In the meantime, ODU hoops went from a CAA power and semi-regular NCAA tourney participant to a present 2-13 record and a last place spot in the conference.

Look! Andy Katz mentions WCC and realignment!!!

3. The remaining Big East athletic directors will meet in Dallas on Jan. 11 to discuss their latest moves, including the update on the television negotiations. Tulsa and UMass have been discussed as possible additions if the Big East decides to expand, according to multiple sources. Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around. Meanwhile, the Mountain West expects to move on San Diego State by the end of this week, according to a league source. The MWC has to decide if it will go to 12 or 14. The MWC has interest in SMU and Houston, but SMU has let it be known to the MWC it has no interest as the Mustangs and Cougars are set to go to the Big East. UTEP desperately wants to be in the MWC, according to a source, and is on the MWC list. BYU is the first choice for the MWC but at this juncture the Cougars want to remain independent in football, WCC in other sports.

This crap gets posted all the time but what the heck:

Bradley 12,987,000
Creighton 15,062,122
Drake 12,964,153
ISUr 18,631,777
ISUb 12,394,542
MSU 13,605,468
SIU 19,671,796
Evansville 10,043,793
UNI 14,632,492
WSU 19,551,408

As you can see WSU is already 2nd overall in total expenses despite not having football. Now whether or not that means WSU is probably tapped out or it proves they have a deep enough well to draw from to go ahead and add another 7-10 million for football I don't know. My guess it would be quite the difficult thing to do since it has not been done.

Is there a link or just rumors?

The Catholic 7 are meeting with Fox on Wednesday. Supposedly that means an announcement either that day or later in the week. No link.

So likely an annoucement about a TV deal but nothing on teams? I do not suppose a TV deal could be inked without the teams being known to the one writing the check could it?

In all likelihood, any future TV deal would be based upon the teams already committed to the league. ESPN built its empire on the Big East--and, more specifically, the large east coast markets that comprise the Big East--so Fox is presumably trying to bottle the same lightning.

The addition of the Omaha, St Louis, Cincinatti, and/or Indianapolis, as large as those markets are, doesn't really add a whole lot to the existing NYC, DC, Philly, Jersey, Chicago, and Milwaulkee markets when a TV deal is being drawn up.
