Early now has 5 MVC Newcomer Of the Week awards this season.
Random MVCFans.com member, circa 2007: "Gregg Marshall is in over his head in this conference."

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that even if Early was the best player in the league (he isn't, but might be the most talented), he wouldn't be on the national radar yet. And yes, I know some freshmen are in those talks, but even those freshmen had some media presence because they tend to be high ranked recruits going to BCS schools, not JuCos going to Wichita State.

Early is a nice MVC player as we've seen in 5 valley games. Maybe even all league level. Lets see where things stand in a month or so before crowning him.

Did you read the part where I said he wasn't the best player in the league? I don't think it is unfair to say he might be the most talented player in the league from a next level standpoint. A good senior season and he'll get a lot of looks, and he is already drawing scouts.

So is there a chance WCC has their first NBA player in what, about 20 years? I can see why you are so giddy. It's obviously been a while since you have had scouts checking out one of your players.

I would rate Jackie Carmichael as the best current MVC player from the standpoint of next level/NBA potential.

Tell me all about the scouts that went to watch McDermott's 5th game as a starter. Besides, it isn't like Wichita State is alone in the MVC for producing little NBA talent (Creighton hasn't had a player drafted in 10 years). We did produce a lot of NBA talent at one point though.

Couple of problems with your post. Doug's 5th game as a starter came when he was a freshman, not a junior. I can tell you that in his very first start as a junior, he played in front of something like 12 scouts.

Secondly, while Kyle may be last Bluejay drafted, he isn't the most recent Creighton grad to play in the NBA. Anthony Tolliver has been on a roster for several years now.

And? Wichita State has had players in the NBA in the last 6 years, but you don't see me taking credit for them. The point of looking at the draft is because the vast majority of players that play in the NBA come from the draft, and drafted players are players considered NBA-level talents.

Besides which, the point about scouts wasn't about their age but about the amount of time they've had to impress NBA scouts. McDermott had 2 years to get attention going into this season, Early had nothing. And yet, scouts were watching him within 5 games of becoming a starter.

not trying to flame, but who from wsu has played in the nba in the last 6 years? were they on rosters for extended periods? Miller? Durley? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Miller with the Knicks for a limited amount of time in 06-07. Maurice Evans with a variety of teams from 2006-2012 (yes, he didn't graduate from Wichita State but did attend for two years).
