Code: Select all

First half of this one was about as interesting as a Latin Mass.

Second half was more like watching The Weather Channel with constant interruptions for the officials.
That is funny as sh#$
The trifectca landed at Evansville tonight WOW....

Daniel Chrisman is the referee listed. He is mid 50 Afro American... no record on Stat Sheet of him Good Luck called some of themost unique fouls I have watch in over a minimum of 30 years

Where the conference really has control of - is what refs they assign to what games.

The 3 refs were for the Bradley @ Evansville game were:

Gene Grimshaw http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/gene-grimshaw

Dan Chrisman http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/dan-chrisman

Zelton Steed http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/zelton-steed

I think you have Chrisman and Steed confused

With the new rule book out and the season closing out how are the MVC referees this year. Early on they seem to call a load of hand checking and more finesse fouls and later either the teams have moved their feet more or the refs have change.

I think the hand checking fouls by the defense have been more or less eliminated by the new emphasis. The block-charge call now goes to the offensive player about 95% of the time, whereas it would previously be called in favor of the offensive player about 45% of the time. I'm good with this part of the rule. What's not so good in my opinion is that when guarding a ball handler, the refs will too often call body contact. If you can't touch a player with your hands, but body contact is made while moving your feet, they have to let it go. Also, moving screens need to be called. If the offensive player can set a "moving" pick and the defensive player can't use his hands and will occasionally be called for a body bump, and the secondary defender can't take a charge, it is almost impossible to defend. On "verticality" of the primary defender, they need to call that less often. If your hands are straight up and/or you aren't initiating body contact with the defender, that should be a no call. If the offensive player believes his best shot involves jumping into the defensive player, then let him try to make it without a whistle.

One change I'd like to see that is no where in discussion is for the moving screen to be called a turn over (similar to a lane violation) instead of a personal foul. There is no reason to rack of fouls for a moving screen, but since it's not called anyways, I guess it doesn't matter.

Lastly (other than the most ridiculous charge call on Ron Baker last night) I have felt that the whistle has been good this year. I'm pretty sure that is because we won all of our games, but whatever.

The valley needs to up their game (and their money) to get better officials. No disrespect to OVC/Sun Belt/Swac Refs but the refs you will see at the MVC tournament are the refs I'd like to see more often. However, the B1G and Big 12 are also competing for them

Those refs go all over the country. I don't think the MVC has the cash to pull refs away from other Saturday games.
