Their current gym is too small, and I know some here will shudder at the idea of this, but couldn't NDSU put the basketball court at one of the ends of the Fargodome with portable seating on the other side? It would actually be a better setup than in the UNI-Dome, as they would have permanent seating on three sides. It would be a similar setup to what the Spurs used to play in the Alamodome before their new building was built.

Obviously a new basketball only facility would hopefully be on their roadmap, but this seems to be a very workable option.

so i did a little digging on the ndsu "arena" plans.... here is what i found:

http://www.gobison.com/PhotoAlbum.dbml? ... BID=380357

this renovation that they are talking about looks pretty good in the renderings. It also looks like they just built an indoor track and field facility right next to their basketball arena. Looks really nice.

As far as i can tell they need a couple million more before they break ground. If there is a donor who is waiting, they should step up and that would certainly help their cause.

Our coaches don't like playing in the Fargodome, it is a huge building and not very basketball friendly. We actually played UND there this year...

That said the renovated arena is very close to becoming a reality and it will be much better for NDSU than playing in the dome. The renovated arena will look nothing like its current form and from what I understand it will be similar to UNI's arena. It will also include a basketball practice facility.

It will not look like UNI's Mcleod Center. If articles on google are to be believed, it will only seat approx 5,700 people, which amazingly is even less than what it seats right now, and will include "mostly retractable seating".

UNI and Drake already have the smallest arenas in the league, and they both seat over 7K. You're going to undergo a large renovation and still have the smallest arena in the league by 1,500 people?

Not that it really matters but the capacity will be 5,945 which is slightly larger than what we have now. I believe it will have a mix of permanent and retractable setting, the plan is to completely gut the arena and make a seating bowl, add suites and club seating.

What's the break down on the expenses? Rent, recruiting, salary?

No matter how hard you parse the figures, it seems unlikely to make things look better for MSU. We already know that MSU pays Lusk peanuts.

Because at MSU, if the women's coach is paid peanuts, you can't pay the men's coach cashews, almonds, walnuts or pecans. Title IX, you know.

At least, I seem to recall the previous AD bowing to a local Title IX hawk.
