Postby ptownbraves » January 22nd, 2013, 6:53 pm

From the PJstar:

Lemon averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals last week, leading Bradley (12-7, 4-3 MVC) to a pair of 69-66 victories at Carver Arena. The honor is the first in Lemon’s career and he is the first Brave to be named Valley Player of the Week since Andrew Warren March 1, 2011.

In Tuesday’s win against Southern Illinois, Lemon scored 16 points, tied his career-best with eight assists and shared game-high honors with three steals in Tuesday’s win against Southern Illinois.

In Saturday’s win against Missouri State, Lemon scored a game-high 20 points, including the game-winning points on a running, 25-footer as time expired. Lemon’s shot was featured as the No. 3 play in ESPN SportsCenter’s Top Plays segment Saturday night.

Lemon leads Bradley in scoring (13.8 points per game) and assists (3.8 assists per game) and he ranks second in The Valley to teammate Dyricus Simms-Edwards and 27th nationally by averaging 2.3 steals per game.

Lemon has impressed me just about every time I've seen him. Good athlete with some pretty good skills.

Walt can ball that's for sure. He makes too many bonehead plays for my likin though. I'd take him on my team but I wouldn't want him being a player I rely on to win or lose games.

Walt Lemon has improved as much as any player I can ever remember at Bradley from the time he stepped on campus. His worth ethic is noted all the time in the local media, etc.

He makes some of the absolute worst turnovers you will ever see and he turns it over about three times a game too much. After that though---he is one of the toughest matchups in the league. Very hard to guard. His athleticism is off the charts and he has become a reliable FT and outside shooter.

He is a junior so will be a building block for Bradley next year. He is also a good student and came to Bradley from Julian High School in Chicago.

Most of us BU fans think very highly of Walt as a rep of BU. He is determined, resilient, tough, a diligent worker, and intense. I think we've also learned to shake off those 2 or 3 too many bonehead turnovers per game, as his positives outweigh those moments. So glad we have him for 1 more season.

Hopefully he won't have to play the point next year, provided Fields comes through. He could have one helluva senior year with a PG playing next to him.
