I think in this scenario, that the MVC would implode with Il ST, MSU, UNI and SIU finding a way to move up to FBS and Evansville, Bradley and Drake finding new homes. Not sure what might happen to Indiana State as far as football goes, but they would have a tough financial decision to make as well.

Where would WSU go? The mountain west isn't adding basketball only schools. They aren't getting invited to the C7. Maybe a depleted A10 would be an option if they decided to add some stronger mvc schools. For $ reasons it is likely WSU stays in MVC. May not be happy with it, but there aren't options.

I still think there's a chance the MWC approaches WSU.

I know we're also joking around about DII.....if Bellarmine needs a home in the near future.....no it would still be a bad idea for the Valley to think about it. But they're worth throwing in the bargain bin next to the UMKCs, UN-Omahas, and WIUs of the world.

I'd say 80% chance Bellarmine goes D1 by 2016. But the Summit League is probably where they end up, just like N. Kentucky.

I have somewhat of an inside source (not greatly conneted but works in administration at a Jesuit university). His gut and what he claims to have overheard is that Xavier, Butler and SLU are 1st and the C7 stay at 10 for a couple of years. St. Louis TV market gives Fox a boner when compared to a 2nd Ohio school or an Omaha school and Fox money will be very influential. The person I talked to believes that 12 or 16 is final number and Creighton is a lock, it just may be another 2-5 years after initial formation of the conference.

My source does not work in the athletic department so I wouldn't lay any money on his predictions but he is slightly more connected than others.

So to answer the original question, I say add Murray State but since the timetable could be a few years, and the landscape of CBB changes faster than that, my mind could change by the time CU leaves, if they do.

I believe I would look west for WSU traveling partner. Surely some school would claim them .
It isn't like they ain't got no friends out there in the plains. Is there another college or higher educational institution there in Wichita? GO West young man! Go Southwest young man!Go Go?

To re-touch on some points already made. Wichita has been looking to get out for years, the problem is they can't find a home better than the Valley, if (when) CU leaves they will be able to find a home better than the Valley. In all honesty, I don't know if its better / Worse but I have always thought C-USA would be a great fit for WSU.

This leaves the Valley in an Abyss. The convo for a couple years has been about UNI going to the MAC for football, but the MAC might not want another football only school. UNI fans and admin don't want to the MAC for all sports because the MVC is better and more affordable travel wise. Take away CU and WSU all of a sudden MVC = MAC in all sports. I think the time would be right to use UNI's recent success in Basketball(last 5-6 years) and make the jump to "big boy football" (even though many years MVCFC = MAC). In a way, use basketball to get us into FBS football. I would be against this in the MVC's current format, but if that format doesn't include CU and WSU then why not?

You now have the 3 most successful programs from the Vallley over the last 10 years gone. You have its two biggest markets, best baseball program, host to the MVC Baseball tourney, best volleyball program, hell, second best volleyball program, best track program, best soccer program, I don't even know where to go with this. THIS BOARD MIGHT NOT EXIST IN 5 YEARS!!!!

Lots of Doom and Gloom based on fiction.

As a Wichita fan I can tell you they are not going anywhere. It's going to suck losing CU but I don't see WSU having an option, just isn't there.

To sixth ace, the closest two D1 schools to Wichita that don't play FBS would be UMKC and Oral Roberts. Oral Roberts I would be fine with. I really wish UMKC had any sort of athletic department up there as it would be nice to have a Valley stop in KC/rival type thing but they S U C K bad, heck UNO would be better than UMKC.

Why do they have to be replaced? Going with 9 is better option than anybody that has been proposed.

Again...what conference is salivating to get a non-football, non "academic" school like Wichita State into it's stable?
