Again...what conference is salivating to get a non-football, non "academic" school like Wichita State into it's stable?

How many "non-academic" schools have a world-renowned aviation research institute which routinely works with NASA?

Tribe, you shouldn't bag on academics as you butcher the language.

please, Wichita State University ranking fourth among all U.S. universities in aeronautical Research and Development Expenditures is not that big of deal. NIU does the interlude.

Everyone knows that the folks who put a man on the moon using slide rules weren't too smart. A junior high sociology teacher at Waterloo Middle School could have easily done that.

Everyone also knows that you don't have to be too brainy to start a little pizza joint that grew into an industry powerhouse, employing thousands of people around the world and racking up 2011 sales of nearly $14 billion. A Home Ec teacher from Cedar Falls High could have done that.

Yep, WSU has turned out some really impressive alums. So has basically every D1 school in the country.

You can get a great education at Wichita State. I don't deny that.

But in the world of higher education and athletics perception is everything. If you think WSU is perceived the same academically as the schools making up the new "Catholic 7" league then you live in a dream world. Does it make it right? I didn't say that. But we are talking about perception and reputation.

WSU does not have the academic reputation of Creighton, Butler, Marquette, or Georgetown.

Are you arguing that the academic requirements for admission to WSU are the same as they are at the schools mentioned above?

Pretty much any public university lacks this cachet. But I wouldn't say Butler has that cachet either except for a handful of degrees (Pharmacy most notably)

Fair point.

While impressive in many ways, I still don't see what league would be chomping at the bit to add Wichita State right now. Other than saying "Wichita would leave", where, exactly, would the Shox go?
