Coach of the year now up for debate?

Postby bradley_brave1989 » February 5th, 2013, 9:17 pm

I was one of the many that though Greg Marshall desereved coach of the year hands down...last week...now that the Shox have lost three straight including tonights headscratcher against SIU, is the door open for Coach Ford, Coach Mcdermott, or Coach Lansing?

Clearly the co-coaches of the year will be Marty Simmons and Mark Phelps. :Bam:

I understand Bradley was bad last year but unless Indiana State get's within one game of the Jays this one is all McDermott.

7-25 and 2-16 in conference last year. I dont think anybody including myself thought Bradley was better than a 9th place team this year...its plausable they loose the rest of the six remaining, and then obviously he wouldnt or shouldnt win. But if they go 9-9, which isnt a far reach by any means then i think he seriously would get some love.

Totally agree on Coach Ford. Still a lot of games to play this year, but taking a 2-16 team, gaining only 2 new major contributors and take a team picked to finish 9th to a 4th or 5th place finish, and I think there definitely will be some love there. Not saying he will win, but what he has done from last year to this year is pretty amazing.

The problem with the coach of the year is that it doesn't normally go to who may actually deserve it the most. Bradley finishing anywhere out of Thursday would be a huge shock. I think Ford could get it for surpassing expectations. Everyone knew Creighton was going to be good. They have the best players in the conference so they are doing exactly what is expected. How should McDermott get rewarded for that? Lansing is also maybe in the discussion if they don't fall off.

The sad part is it always goes to the coach of the team that finishes high even if they were expected to be there. Same with POY it will be someone off the best team normally not necessarily the player who had the best year. Obviously this year Doug will actually be both, but that does not always happen.

If BU finishes in the top half, Geno will get votes. If they somehow sneak into 3rd (a game out if CU beats ISU Blue tomorrow) he'll contend for the award. My money is on maybe 1 vote with BU finishing 6th.

Marshall is still the front-runner, but he is a game or two away from losing it completely. And to think he probably was a top candidate for national CoY three games ago.

I totally agree with uni. I realize the award does not work this way, but coach of the year should be analyzed along side with expectations and situations the season has provided. When doing that, i still believe Triple G is deserving of the award, with no close second. They lost 5 of their best players from last year, lost 3 starters during the year this year, and are still in 2nd place in the Valley and have at-large chances. Truly amazing.

I try to imagine if CU lost Doug, Chatman, and Wragge. Or even "only" Ech, Gibbs, and Manigat. Coach Mac would be a legend if he were in WSU's position right now with that situation.
