Shox starting to run away with it. Drake missing everything, Shox rebounding everything. Carll Hall and Fred VanVleet both posting double doubles.

Fred vanVleet with a career high 17 points, 9 assists, 1 turnover and 5 rebounds. 2 steals for good measure in 35 minutes, his most of the season.

Seems like the player Illinois State or Bradley couldn't land has just landed some serious minutes in a program that doesn't normally provide minutes to freshmen.
Random MVCFans.com member, circa 2007: "Gregg Marshall is in over his head in this conference."

I like #34.

Now that guy is a player.

He rubs off those single, double and/or triple picks so effectively and then he catches and shoots all in a single motion and then the nets rip and then the score board lights up.

He is really good.

I wish we had one just like him.

Simons is good one, no doubt. Confident, quick release.

Lately I've been trying to watch more off-ball action. (I'm embarrassed to admit I get caught watching the ball 95% of the time.) I saw one instance late in the 2nd half where Cotton was following Simons along the baseline. Simons curled around a screen set by Clarke on the low block. Clarke gave Cotton a shoulder that practically sent him into the student section. No foul called and Simons got an open mid-range jumper. I could get plenty of open shots if my screeners were allowed to deliver my defender into another zip code.

I'm going to start paying more attention to off-ball screens to see if that is a trend.

The shox may have a player like simons but we would never know it. I've never known marshall to run triple screens for anyone.

While watching VanVleet I said, I think they have another Hatch, my wife thought maybe even more of a threat than Hatch was.

I know this was a compliment but FVV will be 10x the player Hatch was. Graham had the heart of a lion but his skillset was very blasé. Fred's natural abilities at his position are much, much higher than Graham's were.

FVV will be a 30 mpg player for the next three years and MVC fans will feel like he's been around forever by the time he graduates.
