Yes a coach can request a possible flagrant foul be reviewed. Actually Marshall didn't know that at the beginning of the year. He learned it when the Shockers played VCU and Shaka made a request that a play be reviewed.

I think people need to remember what actually happened after the kick. Because they reviewed the play after another foul had been called (not sure if that is the correct way to do it), Illinois State got two free throws before Wichita's two shots. They canceled out.

Essentially, Carmichael's kick was punished no more harshly than a travel. Wichita State didn't get free-throws and the ball, they got two free-throws to GET BACK to where they were before the kick and the ball.

So it isn't like the kick cost Illinois State the game by itself. It may have changed the momentum, but in effect it was just a TO that Wichita State capitalized on.

We know you all want us to lose, but you can thank us for selling tickets for you. So tonight was the "Redout" probably the most tickets sold all year. Creighton will have the "Whiteout" most tickets sold all year. UNI had a "Whiteout" most tickets sold all year...same story everywhere we go. I'm sure the announcers and refs were paid in advance to back WSU if Carmichael kicked anyone in the face/chest/balls wherever. I mean really it had to be an accident, when I jump I karate kick my leg straight out into someone's face and stare them down as I'm doing it.

The chest, by definition, is not above the shoulders. The rule is in place to protact against concussions. Total BS.

Above the shoulders, below the shoulders doesn't means squat! That is only one aspect of the rule! For example if when a player goes up for a shot you tackle them around the waste, that's a flagrant foul! If while your opponent is running down the court you intentionally trip them, that's a flagrant foul! If you go up for a rebound and karate kick your opponent, that's a flagrant foul. I would not be surprised if there is further action by the league and or the NCAA against Jackie.

Your team pissed down their leg and the Shox made them pay, face the music!

Maybe if you had crowds like that for all your games instead of just 3 a year you would win more.

There is more than one part to the rule. Kicking is a non-basketball play and, while contact above the shoulders is a point of emphasis, it is not required for a flagrant foul to be assessed.

It was the right call. Credit to WSU for making the plays they needed to win the game.

I agree this call was "total BS". It's BS, because a foul should have been called immediately. It's BS, because after reviewing the call, JC should've been ejected. I have no idea what was going through his head, but this was far from a basketball move, it was a dangerous kick to the chest of an opposing player. I like Carmichael, he's probably my favorite non-Aces player to watch in the league, but at best this was a bonehead move. At worst, this was a low-brow, classless cheap shot. After watching him play his whole career, I tend to believe it was a bonehead move, either way I think it still warranted an ejection. Come to think of it, we play ILSU next, so he should clearly be suspended for one game.
